A Guide to Choosing A Decent Airline

So many airlines, so little time!

Whenever you do a Skyscanner search, or indeed a Google search, you will probably be open-mouthed at the number of airlines out there, and of course that makes picking the best ones rather difficult! Don’t forget I like a good moan at the crap airlines 😉

Flying BA - one of my favourites.

Flying BA – one of my favourites.

At the end of the day, a cheap flight is a cheap flight, and it’s a way of getting from A to B. Saving money is of course the name of the game, but you want to be comfortable during your journey, especially if you’re heading long haul. I normally use BA or Singapore Airlines (if you’re reading guys – hint hint for a sponsor!)

Whichever airline you choose in the end, and prior to your flight, make sure you use this a flight tracker. It keeps you up to date with your flight status, making sure you’re not getting delayed, and to make sure you’re heading to the right terminal.

Cutting out flying stress is half the battle.

As for comfort however, that’s another thing altogether.

Not every airline has the same amount of leg room as others, not every airline allows you the same amount of hand luggage on board, not every airline has good food, not every airline has food at all … the list goes on.

How do you narrow it down?

Well I guess price plays a huge part, and with the advent of low cost airlines, you do have an array to choose from. Easy Jet, Ryanair, British Airways, Jet 2, Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook, these are all airlines where you can grab a serious bargain throughout the year, and these are just the tip of the iceberg, with more regional, country-related airlines, depending on where you’re going.

I recently flew to Turkey with Turkish Air, and even though this is a huge airline in Turkey, was a little apprehensive because I hadn’t flown with them before, and I didn’t know much about them myself. The flight was basic, but it was comfortable and I landed safely, however they lost my bag (yet to write about it). Obviously I wasn’t flying long-haul, so leg room and food wasn’t really an issue for me, but all it really takes is to find a cheap flight, take note of the airline, and then hit the internet for reviews, taking most of them with a pinch of salt, but if an issue rears its head a few times in a review, do pay it some attention.

My Ryanair days – “A plane is a plane”

At the end of the day, a plane is a plane to me, and it gets me from home to my destination. If the flight price is right, the reviews are okay, and I feel good about it, I book it – I’d urge you to do the same. Ryanair or Easyjet. A to B is all we need.

Safe travels!

  • Hi Ray – we always use Frequent Flyer points and I’m a member of 3 of them, hence why I often go on British Airways long haul and Singapore Airways. My recent flight to Mexico City from Brazil was free because of miles. Safe travels. Jonny

  • I notice you have just got a haircut, ha ha ha

    Look mean.

If you want a good deal, book early.

I used to book Jet Star, good for urgent booking.

When I book like 4 to 5 months ahead, the same price.

But if I look at a good airline like Singapore airline, much cheaper.

If you fly often, get into their reward program.

Even if you don’t, just do it.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Bring a computer with whole bunch of movies, watch the whole flight.

    The best.

I hate transit so I just pick the shortest flight.
