Relaxing at Alona Beach, Panglao Island, the Philippines

Think of all those stereotypes you hear about the Philippines and then head to Alona beach on Panglao Island. It is here on this remote beach where those stereotypes live up to their promise and become reality. Alona Beach is a paradise for relaxing – but head there quick as it becoming VERY touristy and is in danger of becoming a lot more well known. Not a bad thing, but remember I’m a travel cynic and I prefer off the beaten track places like Belarus and Luoping to New York and Paris…

How to get to Alona Beach on Panglao Island

To get to Panglao Island you will most likely come from Bohol. There’s a bridge connecting Bohol to Panglao – hire a driver is your best bet, though bus tours and local buses also head here. Once you are on Panglao Island, reaching Alona Beach is easy. Its the beach at the end of the main street or hub of tourism. We stayed in 2 different places there over 3 nights, one of which was a mere 10 minute walk from Alona Beach. You can stay close to the beach if you want, but there’s no real need to.

Why visit Alona Beach?

If you like to relax with a decent view, by a beach, with good food and drinks then this is the place for you. It’s a tropical paradise a world away from slaving eejits (idiots) in their posh office jobs. When you get to a place like Alona Beach, it is here you fall in love with the whole travel lifestyle and realise that phoning clients and attending business meetings are not for you. At least if they are, you want your business meeting by a beach wearing shorts and flips flops, sinking a cocktail.
