Backpacking in France: My Stay at Le Regent Hostel, Montmartre, Paris

I’m not a romantic, nor is Paris really my type of city. But somehow on each visit, it grows on me. Perhaps it was the reminiscing I did when I was here. It’s a city that most people love straight away. I’m a tough nut to crack and to get impressed these days. But then I remember how my French friend Charlotte took me on a city tour back in 2007. It’s her city. She walked us up to Montmartre for sunset by the Sacre Coeur. My return to Paris in 2016 was influenced by the football tournament Euro 2016 and as well as being with my Dad, brothers and friends, I also love my own time in hostels. So I booked into Le Regent Hostel in charming Montmartre.

It’s on the main street at Anvers, Boulevard de Rochechouart, the same street that leads to the Moulin Rouge and you can easily walk up to Montmartre from here. This is a cool hostel with very good staff, here are my five best reasons why you should stay here.

1.Location: Montmartre!
To have a location this close to Montmartre, the Sacre Coeur, Moulin Rouge etc. for such a good price is fantastic. You’re in the heart of the party zone at night too – plenty of late night bars, clubs and restaurants.

There’s the charms of Montmartre nearby too, and you are a 2 minute walk if that from the Metro station at Anvers.

2.Free Welcome Shot
Le Regent is part of a hostel group called Hip Hop Hostels. They have some absolute backpacker classics like free shots on arrival, beer promotions and they had a party spirit in evidence as I was there for the Euro 2016 tournament.

3.Themed Nights
I guess I was lucky to catch this but there was a themed night on my first evening here. It was FREE pasta and wine night!

As I was also here for Euro 2016, there was a good buzz about the place watching the football.

5.Free Wi-Fi
Again, the Wi-Fi was free and fast. I was in room 405 and it worked from my room. As a bonus, I could see the famous Sacre Coeur out my hostel dorm room window.
