Backpacking in Austria: My Stay at the YoHo Hostel in Salzburg

Salzburg in Austria is an absolute gem of a place, and one that I only ended up in after a crazy bet on the football team, SV Grodig! Now I was sorted to be travelling here to the city of Salzburg, I got booked in to the very popular YoHo Hostel. The YoHo Hostel is one of those on the list of “Europe’s Famous Hostels”. Down the years you might be aware that I stayed in a few of the other ones on the list, including the impressive Abraham Hostel in Jerusalem.

The YoHo Hostel is superb, don’t even think about staying anywhere else in Salzburg. Get it booked and be ready to meet lots of cool people and enjoy the sights of a really under-rated city. Here are five perfect reasons to stay at the YoHo Hostel.

1.Location – Near the Haupt Bahnhof
I was overlanding through Austria and Germany at the time, and I was coming in and out of train stations. It’s perfect then, that the YoHo Hostel is near the Haupt Bahnhof. I basically went from my hostel in Munich straight to this one! Easy!

2.Backpacker’s Bar
If you’re up for meeting like minded people, get down to the hostel bar at Happy Hour for cheap beer and interesting people to meet. I met people from about 20 different countries here, a lot of long term travellers with stories to tell.

3.Clean, Cosy Rooms
I was back to the good old dorm lifestyle again here at the YoHo hostel and I had a lower bunk in a six bed dorm for four nights.

4.Brilliant Breakfast for 4Euros
I forgot how much I loved cheese and ham until I was back in Germany and Austria. I hadn’t had decent cheese in months, and now I was able to enjoy a brilliant breakfast here. It’s an all you can eat option, running from 7am to 10am and costs 4Euros.

5.Expert Tour Organisation
The reception staff at the YoHo Hostel are so helpful organising tours and helping you find your way around the city. You get a map on arrival, there are leaflets for almost every attraction you could want to check out and the staff can book things for you. As a bonus, you also get 10% off the Sound of Music tour, you can read all about my Sound of Music tour here.
