When you base yourself in Richmond, Virginia, you are in a slightly less-traveled U.S. tourist city. You will be glad to know that there are many fun activities to see and do in Richmond. 1. Ghost Tours
Ghost tours are becoming increasingly popular in the city. The “Haunts of Richmond” ghost tour takes place in Richmond’s oldest and most haunted neighborhood. Certain sites on the tour are eerie and spooky, and reports of paranormal activity have made the news around town. You can book a tour with Haunts of Richmond.

2. Canal Cruises

A cruise on the canal is a fantastic way to spend the day, and it’s fun for couples and families alike. The canal system in Richmond dates back to 1789, and it connects the harbor in the west side of the city to the harbor at the trade and market districts on the east. 3. Richmond Dragway
One not-to-be-missed attraction is the drag racing in Sandston. It runs on weekends from March to November and is a hugely popular activity. 4. The Waltons Tour
Perhaps you didn’t know that Virginia is the home state fo the hit TV show “The Waltons.” While the show is not set in Richmond itself — it’s out in the countryside in Schuyler — tours can easily be arranged. The Walton’s Mountain Museum experience lets you see John-Boy’s bedroom, a replica, Ike Godsey’s store, and some fabulous displays from the history of the series. 5. Virginia State Capitol Tour

You can organize a tour of Richmond’s most famous building, the impressive Virginia State Capitol. The building is open to visitors every day of the week at the following times:

Monday to Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.

Guided tours take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Self-guided tours are available at all times, and on Sunday, the guided tours run from 1 to 4 p.m. The building really is a fascinating and historic building to tour when you’re in Richmond. The Virginia State Capitol building has been home to the Virginia General Assembly since 1788.
