How to Make The Most of Your Trip in New York

Making the most of a trip to New York can be difficult for first-timers. It’s easy to make the assumption the first visit will be perfect, but what travellers sometimes fail to realize is the city can’t be broken down in only one trip. It may take more than a couple trips to feel comfortable, but for now, here are some ways to breeze through like a champion.

Taking More Than One Trip

Leave the expectation to do everything at once behind. It’s impossible. Instead, research places beforehand that are on your list to see. Find out if they’re feasible and if not, try a different month or year. It’s common for tourists to leave disappointed because they didn’t see everything they wanted, but trust us, even the people who live there have more to experience.

Transportation From The Airport

One common mistake tourists make when they arrive at the airport is hailing a taxi or ordering an Uber. This is a costly option because taxis are priced higher based on traffic, and Ubers if they’re not ordered before the arrival. Your best option? To take any shuttle running to all points within the city. Shuttles are a slower form of transportation still bound to run into traffic, but they are cheaper.

Museums

When visiting a popular city it’s easy to get sucked into going to popular museums. While popular museums are must-sees, there are so many others tourists’ don’t know about. These smaller museums are located in ‘hidden’ parts of the city and are recognized for their unbelievable art collections. These museums include The Neue Gallery, The New Museum, and The Frick.

Asking For Directions

Don’t assume when roaming the streets of New York that the natives hate being spoken to. If you need help, it’s best to ask. We get the quickness of the city is unsettling, but the people of NYC are always open to giving directions. People who know the city like an open book prefer to give as many details as possible. Honestly, their insight will cause you to rethink how much you know about your home.

Choosing Food

There are so many restaurants in New York it’s hard to really know what is good. Keep in mind, just because food is expensive doesn’t mean it’s satisfying. Do research and ask questions before choosing a place. Street vendors also have good food and if the line is long, it means the vendor is worth the wait and money.

Shopping

Shopping in the city is inevitable, but it’s important to avoid places you’ve seen time and time again, like Forever 21 and H&M. The city has a plethora of small, clothing boutiques either difficult to find elsewhere or simply don’t exist in other places. A great place to go is SoHo in Lower Manhattan. Expect the atmosphere to be nothing short of art galleries, artists and of course shopping. Boutiques in the area are upscale, international and national outlets.

In conclusion when you need to get away from your 9-5 whether you are a stock broker, financial advisor, lawyer, engineer, doctor or any other profession New York is the place to go. As long as you follow this guide you will have a blast.
