Staying at the Abbey Court Hostel in Dublin, Republic of Ireland

“In Dublin’s Fair City where the girls are so pretty I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone.”

I’ve been to Dublin a fair amount of times down the years. Rock concerts (including Oasis in 1996 and 1997), nights on the town and more Guinnesses than Arthur ever expected to sell. These days I use the city as a chill out base and a stop over city rather than the backpacking beast of days of yore. This time I wanted somewhere central to stay, near the River Liffey, near to a load of pubs and just a cool quirky hostel to chill out in.

I found the Abbey Court Hostel which is one of the most popular hostels in the city and also recommended in the Lonely Planet. We booked in for 2 nights on my return to the Emerald Isle after a year of hardcore backpacking through 25 countries and almost reaching my 100 country mark milestone.

1. Location
Quite simply the location of the Abbey Court Hostel is hard to beat. It sits on the Liffey, round the corner from O’Connell Street, where the famous Spire and Post Office sit. Also opposite the river is the famous Temple Bar area and within walking distance of the Oscar Wilde Statue, Grafton Street, the Guinness Brewery and the Jameson Distillery.

I was travelling with my girlfriend again though and we had a nice cosy double with an ensuite instead of a dorm room for a change.

There is a great range of fruit, cereals and toast as well as water, tea and coffee. Always a bonus to get breakfast included as so many hostels ignore this simple concept.
