Staying at the Best Hostel in El Salvador: Hostal Casa Verde, Santa Ana

Right, this completes a hat-trick for me – three hostels I have stayed in all called something similar to “Green House” and I loved them all – crazy. The first one I wrote about was Limehouse Hostel in Buenos Aires in 2010, then in 2014 I stayed in Hostel Green House in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. My journey backpacking in El Salvador led me to the Hostal Casa Verde in Santa Ana.

My third “GREEN” House hostel from my travels – Casa Verde, Santa Ana

After changing buses at Sonsonate, I arrived in Santa Ana only to find the hostel was simply one of the best I have ever stayed in. Hostal Casa Verde has been voted the best hostel in El Salvador by TripAdvisor and Hostel World and it’s obvious why – good value, cosy, luxury, safe, spacious, friendly etc. So here are 10 reasons why you should stay here, and don’t miss Santa Ana – a cool town!

1. Fast Wi-fi
The wi-fi here works in the rooms. This meant I could get my work done, my Facebook photos up and even my videos on YouTube.

2. Cosy Rooms
I loved my room. A mosquito net on the window, comfy bed, wifi that worked, and an ensuite.

3. Great Value

4. Swimming Pool
You might have read some of my hostel and hotel reviews before and while some hostels do have a pool, it’s not common. Not only does Hostal Casa Verde have a pool but it’s clean, well maintained and very private. Bliss. Pure bliss.

Wow – pure bliss for this price – a swimming pool!

5. Green and Blue Interior
OK this is a personal reason why I loved Hostal Casa Verde but the interior colours were my favourite – bright green and blue making it colourful, striking and charming. The weird thing is I always feel better and happier when there is green and blue around.

6. Cool Staff
Get chatting to Carlos who runs Casa Verde. He’s a top man for information on the local area. The rest of the staff work hard and are always willing to help. There are noticeboards everywhere with key information on them.

Yes, there are TWO kitchens here so you’ll have no problem cooking what you want at any time. Plenty of room in the fridges and cupboards too if you like to be self catering.

10. Excellent Location
Casa Verde is pretty central. You are walking distance from almost everything you want in the town, and just a bus ride away (number 55B) from the Metro Centro which has buses running to San Salvador. I was also able to easily walk to the local bus station the day I did the Indigo Workshop in Chalchuapa.

Good location which helps with getting to the bus station (for the Indigo demonstration) and all over town.

So there you go – another country I’ve been to where I stayed in the best hostel in the whole country, and yes I agree with the voting – this place is cool. You can relax here.
