If you haven’t yet heard of Kotor, please put it on your travel list. Kotor is a gorgeous seaside town in Montenegro which boasts a cobbled streeted Old Town, a harbour (Bay of Kotor), lots of funky bars, cafes and restaurants and a huge fortress with views you’ll never forget.

I wanted to stay in the heart of the Old Town and I wanted a hostel – cheap, cheerful and sociable. I heard that Kotor could be a bit of a party town too and hence why I homed in on the Old Town Hostel. They organise nights out and pub crawls and ensure the hostel remains a firm favourite for backpackers.

Here are the five top things I liked about the Old Town Hostel in Kotor.

1. Location
Bang in the heart of the Old Town walls, a 2 minute walk from the entrance to the fortress, 5 minutes from the bus station and the same length of time to the harbour. The location is perfect.

The Old Town Hostel in Kotor is housed inside an old style building in the heart of the Old Town so you get to admire the art and architecture while you sleep.

3. Wi-Fi
The hostels I pick to stay in these days follow an obvious trend for followers of Don’t Stop Living – 95% of them have free Wi-Fi. It’s essential for me to keep bringing you my journeys.

4. Social Vibes
You’ll make new friends and meet new people here. The pub crawls are great, organised and regular. Daniel took us out round the pubs in town.

5. Staff That Become Your Friends
I hung out with Marko who manages the West Wing part of the hostel (it’s a hostel in a few parts) and we went out on a pub crawl together and the staff want to ensure you enjoy your stay in this town. I actually ended up having a bit of a late night, hence why I was glad to end my Montenegro trip in chilled out capital city of Podgorica, which I’ll report on some other time.
