Staying at the Swanky Hotel Noemi, Venice, Italy

Staying at the Swanky Hotel Noemi, Venice, Italy

May 2009 saw my third visit to Italy in a period of 7 months, having never previously even visited the country at all! At the time, life was pretty good and I was madly in love with Hungarian dancer and overall good girl, Noemi Linzenbold. This time we backpacked Venice on a budget!

Looking back I have only fond memories of golden haired Noemi as she danced her way through the bars of Bournemouth, Dorset catching my eye with her vivacious smile. Noemi and I didn’t last long – she rejected me just after this trip. It was to be our final trip together and I often cried because of it. I haven’t seen Noemi Linzenbold since September 2009, but she won’t leave my mind, ever.

When I gave her a birthday surprise of a trip to Venice, she was naturally very excited. I then threw in the square ball of 4 nights in the swanky Hotel Noemi. A hotel named after her. It was all bliss and all a dream. I never reviewed the hotel or wrote in detail about the trip, so here’s a snapshot today, of my life back then in 2009. When I was truly happy.

Why was I in Italy 3 times in 7 months? God only knew. I certainly wasn’t really a Catholic back then nor keen to visit the Vatican City. My new found Catholicism came much later in life (2016 to be exact on a holy pilgrimage to the Polish town of Pelplin). Firstly in October 2008, I visited Trieste in Italy with my Northern Irish football friends on a trip where we also crossed into Slovenia to tour Bled, Maribor, Ljubljana and watch the Slovenia v. Northern Ireland match. Secondly in March 2009, I visited Pisa and Florence in Italy on route to San Marino, which was to be my last Northern Ireland away match for almost 5 years (which I didn’t know at the time). Thirdly, I took Noemi to Venice as a birthday present. It remains as one of the most romantic things I have done, in my opinion. Of course, since this trip I have learned that girls don’t like nice, honest guys who treat them well. Girls prefer the nasty guys who lie and never buy them things. Good guys lose, bad guys win. Either way, I won’t change.

Hotel Noemi is on Calle dei Fabbri in the heart of the poky streets of Venice. It was a perfect location and we had a brilliant room. Here are some photos of our delightful suite.

While it wasn’t to be for Noemi and I, it was still amazing that I have visited Venice, a city of some romance and shared it with a golden girl. I will probably never see Noemi again, but I miss her and I care for her. Here are some photos of Venice…most I never shared before…
