Window of the World in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China

Window of the World in Shenzhen, China. Where to see the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building and Taj Mahal in one day!

Where Can You See The Empire State Building, the Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower all in one day? The answer is the Chinese city of Shenzhen, in the Guangdong Province. This city, also lies right on the border to Hong Kong, and indeed there are a lot of immigration points in Shenzhen. There is also some sight seeing to be done. However this one, Window of the World has to be one of the oddest places I’ve been on my travels. It’s basically a mini theme park (minus the mega rollercoasters and cartoon characters) that aims to bring the entire world to Shenzhen.

Is there any point in going to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, when you can see it here in Shenzhen??

For a global traveller like me, it seemed a bit odd. For hundreds of Chinese people, it seems like an awesome way to spend the day. Well, if you’re never going to visit the real New York in your life, you might as well see a miniature replica, right? Yes, and this is why Window of the World has hit a niche. It really is the whole world in one small park!! I headed there more out of curiosity and to check it out, rather than the necessity to actually see it.

I’ve been to Mount Rushmore!! Ok so I haven’t really, but a miniature version will do!!

How to get to Window of the World in Shenzhen? It has its own station on the Shenzhen Network, called the Window of the World station. It’s on the metro line 1. Couldn’t be easier, come out of the metro and there you are!

How much does it cost to enter Window of the World in Shenzhen?

As of my visit in September 2012, it was 160 Yuan for a single entry ticket for an adult, which lasts all day. I don’t know if they have an official website, but it is covered well on here: Window of the World, Shenzhen

How long do you need to spend inside Window of the World in Shenzhen? Well that depends entirely on you. In my opinion, a few hours (2-3) is plenty and can even get boring, but some tourists like to spend all day there, including eating inside. There are restaurants and even a beer festival once a year would you believe (in retrospect, maybe I should have just went there to have a beer and pretend I’m in Mexico!)

What exactly is Window of the World in Shenzhen? As its charming title suggests, Window of the World is basically exactly that – a small window to view the world. This theme park aims to cover the entire globe with its replicas and representations of cities, towns, islands, buildings and monuments the world over!

What can you see in Window of the World in Shenzhen? I won’t spoil your trip by telling you exactly what’s there, but their website will have some details and basically you can see these global sites in miniature along with a host of others:

– The Taj Mahal, INDIA

– Windmills, THE NETHERLANDS

– Sydney Opera House, AUSTRALIA

– San Marco Square, Venice, ITALY

That’s funny! The Arc de Trioumph never had skyscrapers behind it when I visited Paris!!

What will you NOT see at Window of the World in Shenzhen?

It may have lots of variety and cover most of the globe, but I prefer to travel and see things in real life – the journey is part of the experience for me, so it’s lucky that the following sights are NOT at Window of the World in Shenzhen:

– Antarctica

– Machu Picchu, PERU

– Salar de Uyuni, BOLIVIA

– Giant’s Causeway, NORTHERN IRELAND

You cannot see Antarctica at Window of the World in Shenzhen. You’ll just have to go there like me back in 2010!!

When should you go to Window of the World in Shenzhen?

It’s open all year round – check out this website for exact opening hours.

Is it worth going to Window of the World in Shenzhen?

If you love to travel the world, then probably not – it’s only good for the curiosity factor. If you want to see the world without actually travelling then it’s worth a visit! Plus, Shenzhen doesn’t have an abundance of spectacular sights to see, so if you do ever end up there, it is probably worth visiting!

You’ll have noticed a lot of posts on China recently, living in Hong Kong makes the world’s most populated country so much more accessible these days for me, as does having a multi entry China Visa. More on China to come – Don’t Stop Living!

  • Hi Lisa, thanks for the message. Good luck with your trip. To be honest I was there about 5-6 years ago and don’t remember too well, BUT it was not far from the Metro – the longest walk will be once you get inside. I would say a taxi from the metro to the complex is a waste of time and money, try and hire a cart when inside to make it easier for you. Safe travels. Jonny
