Working Wednesdays: 4 Easy Ways to Make Money When You Travel

A lot of people want to travel the world, but they delay their plans until they have enough money to travel in style. Try these four easy ways to make money to travel, so you can start living your dream and life a travel lifestyle of freedom and adventure.

1.Walk Dogs

If you love dogs and taking walks, combine those passions to make money as a dog walker. You can find clients by posting ads at your local vet’s office, using a website like Dog Walking.com, or posting ads on Craigslist. You can even use your social media accounts to get the word out about your after-hours job.

The amount of money that you make as a dog walker depends on several factors such as:

  • How many clients you have
  • Where you live
  • Whether you have experience as a trainer

Build your skills and market yourself to attract clients who will pay you well to care for their pups.

2.Freelance Writer

It doesn’t take much to start a part-time career as a freelance writer. Assuming that you already have excellent writing skills, you just need a computer with an Internet connection and the drive to write articles for people and companies.

How much you make often depends on how quickly you write without sacrificing quality. Having an expertise can also help you charge higher prices. Plenty of websites want to hire professionals. That means you could leverage your career into an additional money-making opportunity at home.

3.Drive With Uber

Driving with Uber

Uber has grown quickly, so it needs to recruit partners that want to use their own cars to drive clients around town. There are some basic requirements that you must meet before you can drive with Uber. If you have a clean driving record, insurance, and a recent model car, you can usually start making money within days.

When you drive with Uber, you can earn more money than people who drive other types of vehicles. People who drive with Uber make an average $19.04 per hour. Taxi drivers and chauffeurs only make $10.97. You would have to learn to drive a heavy truck to get anywhere close to what you can make with Uber, and even then you would fall short.

Everyone who drives with Uber is an independent contractor, so all partners get to set their own schedules. You drive when you have free time and want to make extra money. If you’re busy with other things, you don’t have to feel obligated to drive.

4.Virtual Assistant

I hired a virtual assistant for the first time in 2013 and it’s paid dividends. Virtual assistants make money by completing a wide range of tasks such as:

  • Responding to emails
  • Designing websites
  • Editing letters and articles
  • Bookkeeping
  • Performing research
  • Compiling travel media contacts

You can work as a general virtual assistant or focus on an area that you like most.

A lot of today’s professionals use virtual assistants because they do not need full-time support staff. They just need a little help every now and then. When those people need assistance, you make money helping them.

Depending on your skill set, you could make anywhere from $15 to $100 an hour. Even if you have to start at the lower end, you can quickly accumulate enough money for travel. I also love to save money when I travel and I often take advantage of coupons and promotions to get cheaper deals.

These four part-time jobs put you in control of how much money you make, and you can always make money from your travel blog and become a professional travel blogger. What’s the first place you plan to visit with money from your after-hours job?
