World Travellers: Kristy the Globetrotting Canuck finding a new friend!

In my latest edition of world travellers it’s the turn of the Globetrotting Canuck, Kristy. While she hails from Canada she’s been to some amazing off the beaten track places that I haven’t even touched yet such as Cuba and Tunisia! Here’s my cool interview with her, check out her site The Globetrotting Canuck.

Who are you?

Kristy aka The Globetrotting Canuck

Where are you from?

Beautiful Vancouver, Canada

Where have you been?

I’ve had the opportunities to see Western Europe, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Tunisia, Cuba, Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Where are you now?

Currently I am at home in Vancouver planning my next big adventure!

What are the top 3 places you’ve visited?

It’s hard to pick just 3 but I would say; Paris, France (where I fell in love with travelling), Santorini, Greece (for the beautiful beaches and scenery), and lastly Siem Reap, Cambodia (for the great bars, market, and proximity to Angkor Wat).

What is the best travel experience you’ve had?

In Tunisia, we spend the day riding through the Sahara desert on camels. Then, that night, we stayed in a camp surrounded by nothing but desert, and spent our time watching shooting stars and rolling in the sand dunes. It was one of the top highlights of all of my travels.

What is the worst travel experience you’ve had?

Getting sick on a 7 hour bus ride in Vietnam. I had to ask the bus driver to pull over twice, one of those times I visited the most disgusting bathroom I’ve ever seen. This was the first time I got really sick while travelling and it made it impossible for me to fully enjoy Vietnam, and put me into a slump for a few days after.

What is the funniest travel experience you’ve had?

Just after landing in Bangkok (my first stop in Asia) my taxi driver was playing a Celine Dion tape. He asked where I  was from and I said Canada (which he thought was below New Zealand).  He was singing along to the Celine Dion songs so i tried to tell him that she was also from Canada. But i think he thought i didn’t like the music and decided to turn it off instead, making for an awkward silence for both of us for the rest of the drive.

What is the scariest travel experience you’ve had?

Racing through a little Vietnamese town and up a mountain (with a dirt road) on the back of a motorbike.  It was one of the most fun/scary moments I’ve had, and I probably wouldn’t have done this at home. I’m a bit more of a daredevil while travelling. When making travel decisions I often say to myself- “when in Rome….”

What 3 tips would you give a new traveller before they set off on their adventure?

1.     Keep an open mind

2.     Use your common sense

3.     Make sure to pause often to take it all in

What are your future travel plans?

Right now I’m planning a trip to China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. In the future I hope to do a trip to Egypt and Jordan. I would also like to explore more of the United Kingdom and Ireland, check out Machu Pichu and Peru, and one day take an African safari.

Kristy is the creative writer behind the exciting travel blog, “The Globetrotting Canuck”. After realizing her passion for travel long ago on a trip to Paris, Kristy soon started to imagine all the places she would one day hope to visit. Since then, she has checked off many items on her list in Western Europe, Southeast Asia and elsewhere, and she is always dreaming of her next great adventure. Kristy loves to experience new cultures, visiting interesting places and going on epic adventures. Whether she’s exploring the ancient ruins in Angkor Wat, Cambodia or wandering through her hometown of Vancouver, Canada, she’s always seeking new experiences to share with others. Armed with good observation skills and an eye for detail, Kristy also gives great tips and advice to help her readers plan their own adventures.
