A Trip on a Floating Restaurant in Bohol, Philippines

Relaxing on a floating restaurant in Bohol, Philippines!

This is typical of the Philippines, a trip on a floating restaurant! The warm, friendly people, the gorgeous climate, the range of food, the relaxation and the lack of skyscrapers and office blocks as seen in capital city Manila. As our restaurant sailed through the rivers of Bohol, it was time to truly relax and realise how amazing a lifestyle of travel can be. It was on the Loboc River on a hot sunny day.

How do you organise a trip on a floating restaurant in Bohol?

The fact is, it will be easier to organise than you think. Minimal effort is required. If you have hired a driver for a day tour, ask him to drop you off to lunch on a floating restaurant, he will know what you mean, and in fact might already be taking you there. If not, you will have to find it yourself…I’d go for hiring a driver by the way, because he can also take you to:

Chocolate Hills

The Tarsier Centre

Flying Colours Butterfly Centre

How much does it cost for a trip on a floating restaurant in Bohol?

Well – it’s an all you can eat buffet, which includes one soft drink, free music and the river cruise for about 350 Philippine Pesos each, which is $8 US Dollars. That’s actually a bit of a rip off to be honest as the Philippines is generally cheaper. If you shop around you might get it cheaper. I don’t think there is a “bring your own food” policy – please comment and tell me if we were ripped off by the way! I still loved it…

What food is available?

As with most buffets, it will suit all tastes. It includes potatoes, chicken, rice, noodles, salad, vegetables, ribs, fruit and desserts. Get in quick – when it’s gone, it’s gone. You also get a soft drink included in the price – we had Sprite.

What do you do on the floating restaurant in Bohol?

The most important things to do are EAT and RELAX. Just sit back and take in the tropical views. Eat as much as you can, have a beer (as a cheapskate traveller, I brought my own beer onboard – see can of black stout above). Don’t let the views pass you by, it’s a memorable cruise.

A bit of live music on the floating restaurant in Bohol Philippines

During the cruise on the floating restaurant, you will also have live music on board. We know Philippenos are good at singing and they roll through the likes of Sting, Four Non Blondes etc. while you relax and live your dreams.

Then at some point you will stop off to meet a local “tribe”, this is of course slightly more staged than it looks. I’m sure it’s a touristy thing and they do it all for money. But I joined these guys and got to hold baby crocodiles for the first time and pose for photos.

Jonny Blair the travelling Northern Irishman and his flag in Bohol Philippines

I met up with a local tribe on the island and they breathed fire and posed with my Northern Ireland flag! An awesome moment!

In fact a photo I took with one of these local tribes on the island on the Loboc River is one of my favourites! One of the guys breathed fire while another banged the drums and I flew my travelling Northern Ireland flag with these guys! It was a nice travel moment for me. But if you go there and take photos with them, it’s common courtesy to leave a small tip.
