You might have read some of my book reviews before, it’s something I’m strict about. I only ever read books that I am genuinely interested in, and I never go browsing for books and just nonchalantly pick one up and read it. That will never happen. In the last 5 years or so, I’ve read only about 10 books, and most of them related to travel or football. The latest book I read was inspiring in many ways and the fact that it involves travel, a hotel owner, jungles of Bolivia and comes from a man who I have met, I bring you my review of a book which had me on the edge of my seat visualising every scenario and adventure within the novel. Mercenary Justice by Deacon Blake. I met Deacon while I backpacked in San Jose and stayed in the wonderful Hemingway Inn.

The book is called Mercenary Justice and is written by Deacon Blake.

This book is a whirlwind story which would make for a great movie! From the start you are so intrigued by the story line, the constant changing of locations. You’re in La Paz, you’re back in the jungle, then you’re in Oklahoma. It’s an adventure thriller with guns, girls and drugs. It’s a backpacking story with a difference. A man trying to settle a score. A man trying to make money. A man killed. A man with a different identity. A woman who dies. A man who dies. A love that ends suddenly. A love that gets destroyed. Truths untold, deaths unsolved and debts not yet paid. Problems that remain.

It’s a whirlwind adventure from start to finish. The characters involved are gradually introduced as the storyline progresses and the scenes change to keep you wondering what’s happening elsewhere. One chapter is a shooting in a jungle, next it’s a night of passion, next chapter we’re back on office duty. Somebody dies and nobody knows why. The thing is – everything will become clear in the end…

It’s a topsy turvy tale concentrated around Damien Chance, an underdog in many ways and a man who ends up involved in the entire affair without any real intention from the start. You’ll be on the edge of your seat the whole way through and gagging to read more, and a sequel or a similar story from author Deacon Blake afterwards.

The book can be bought on Amazon in e-Book and a physical copy of course. I made sure I got a physical copy to read for my travels when I had a beer with author Deacon Blake himself, the same night I celebrated my 11 year anniversary away from Northern Ireland and having had a beer in every country on the mainland America continent (North, Central and South). So get into this one. You’ll love it. Deacon Blake also runs a cool blog called Outlaw Traveller, he runs the Hemingway Inn, he travels and he has more books coming your way!
