<p>On my return to England in 2014 I hit up a few new cities and towns including <a title="Backpacking in England: Exploring Charming Christchurch in Dorset" href="https://dontstopliving.net/backpacking-in-england-exploring-charming-christchurch-in-dorset/" target="_blank">Christchurch in Dorset </a>and the famous <a title="Backpacking in England: Top 5 Sights in Windsor &amp; Eton, Berkshire" href="https://dontstopliving.net/backpacking-in-england-top-5-sights-in-windsor-eton-berkshire/" target="_blank">Windsor and Eton</a>. In Windsor, I hunted down a special cosy hotel for the night and I stayed at the delightful <a title="Staying by The Thames at the Elegant Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa, Windsor, England" href="https://dontstopliving.net/staying-by-the-thames-at-the-elegant-sir-christopher-wren-hotel-and-spa-windsor-england/" target="_blank">Sir Christopher Wren 4 Star Hotel</a>. I&#8217;ve written about my fantastic stay there already but not yet the feast of a meal I had for dinner. It&#8217;s nice every now and then to have a good steak, vegetables and a pint. A diet I actually grew up on &#8211; well at least once a week for my Sunday roasts. Here&#8217;s what I had.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Starter</strong></span><br />
For starter I chose a salad. I went for Wren&#8217;s Summer Green Vegetable Salad which contained avocado puree, grilled asparagus, mange tout and cucumber ribbons, mixed baby leaves and vinaigrette. Cost £6.50.</p>
<div id="attachment_36291" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160072.jpg"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-36291" class="size-medium wp-image-36291" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160072-400x300.jpg" alt="Wren's Summer Green Vegetable Salad" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160072-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160072-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160072.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-36291" class="wp-caption-text">Wren&#8217;s Summer Green Vegetable Salad</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Drink</strong></span><br />
There&#8217;s a full bar available and my friend Jill chose red wine, while I went for a good old pint of Guinness. We were on a big catch up that night &#8211; I hadn&#8217;t seen Jill in a few years &#8211; we used to work together in PJs Irish Pub in Parramatta &#8211; well she was my boss!</p>
<div id="attachment_36289" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160070.jpg"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-36289" class="size-medium wp-image-36289" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160070-400x300.jpg" alt="The menu at the Sir Christopher Wren" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160070-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160070-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160070.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-36289" class="wp-caption-text">The menu at the Sir Christopher Wren</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Main</strong></span><br />
For a main I opted for the 7ounce beef fillet which comes with Horseradish Sweet Potato Gratin, parsnip and parsley mousseline potatoes, pan roasted pearl onions in a port wine juice. I had it cooked medium-well. Cost £29.00.</p>
<div id="attachment_36294" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160075.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-36294" class="size-medium wp-image-36294" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160075-400x300.jpg" alt="My main course - the beef fillet" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160075-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160075-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/P1160075.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-36294" class="wp-caption-text">My main course &#8211; the beef fillet</p></div>
<p>This was without doubt one of the nicest meals I have head on my recent travels and even better that it was with Jill and in the Thameside Restaurant &#8211; such a great setting and you&#8217;re in the Queen&#8217;s Town. When the Union flag is up at night &#8211; it means the Queen is at home and the night I was there she was. So I got to stay in the same town as the Queen for a night on my travels. How gloriously exquisite.</p>
<div id="attachment_32586" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32586" class="size-medium wp-image-32586" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050-400x300.jpg" alt="Sunset at the River Thames by the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32586" class="wp-caption-text">Sunset at the River Thames by the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa.</p></div>

<p>Here are the details on<a href="https://sirchristopherwren.co.uk/food-drink/thames-view-restaurant/" target="_blank"> booking a meal at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel</a> and Spa, treat yourself, go on! With Mother&#8217;s Day and Easter coming up there are some great offers on!</p>

<p>Life has a funny way of going full circle on me. It was another inspiring journey as I left behind the lights of crowded London for a night of relaxation and luxury by the River Thames in the town of Windsor in Berkshire, England. I stayed in the exquisite and elegant <a href="https://sirchristopherwren.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa</a>.</p>
<div id="attachment_32587" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160051.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32587" class="size-medium wp-image-32587" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160051-400x300.jpg" alt="The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa in Windsor, Berkshire." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160051-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160051-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160051.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32587" class="wp-caption-text">The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa in Windsor, Berkshire.</p></div>
<p>I&#8217;d been to Windsor once before, back in the year 2000 when I visited Legoland with my family. This time I was a backpacker turned flashpacker as I headed to <a href="https://dontstopliving.net/backpacking-in-england-top-5-sights-in-windsor-eton-berkshire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Windsor to check out the sights of the town</a> and two reunions with friends. The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa is a luxurious 4 star hotel right on the River Thames. You&#8217;ll have noticed these days that I like to mix my backpacking hostels with 4 stars, with mates floors, with night buses and trains. It was time for some luxury again for a night and here are 10 reasons why you should stay in the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>1. Location on the River Thames</strong></span><br />
The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa is situated overlooking the River Thames. This makes for excellent views, quiet strolls and a decent place to watch sunrise or sunset.</p>
<div id="attachment_32586" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32586" class="size-medium wp-image-32586" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050-400x300.jpg" alt="Sunset at the River Thames by the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160050.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32586" class="wp-caption-text">Sunset at the River Thames by the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa.</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>2. Luxury Rooms</strong></span><br />
The rooms are pure luxury here and there was that &#8220;wow&#8221; factor when I entered my room &#8211; Room 8 with a view over the main street and a cosy bed and bathroom.</p>
<div id="attachment_32628" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160020.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32628" class="size-medium wp-image-32628" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160020-400x300.jpg" alt="My room." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160020-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160020-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160020.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32628" class="wp-caption-text">My room.</p></div>
<div id="attachment_32625" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160017.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32625" class="size-medium wp-image-32625" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160017-400x300.jpg" alt="My bathroom." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160017-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160017-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160017.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32625" class="wp-caption-text">My bathroom.</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>3. Friendly Staff</strong></span><br />
From the moment I stepped in the door and met Natasha on reception to the way the managers and waiters were always saying hello, this is such a friendly place. Managers Jutta and Jill have been working in the hospitality trade for years and know all about customer service.</p>
<div id="attachment_32620" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160012.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32620" class="size-medium wp-image-32620" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160012-400x300.jpg" alt="sir christopher wren hotel" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160012-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160012-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160012.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32620" class="wp-caption-text">Reception at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa.</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>4. Wren&#8217;s Club Spa</strong></span><br />
It was Friday afternoon and what better time to truly relax and ease my battered travel muscles by enjoying the outdoor saunas and Jacuzzi  of the Spa! Pure travel bliss. There&#8217;s also a huge gym and massages are available.</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>5. Business Centre</strong></span><br />
For the avid worker on the move, the Sir Christopher Wren also has a business centre.</p>
<div id="attachment_32600" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160065.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32600" class="size-medium wp-image-32600" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160065-400x300.jpg" alt="The Business Centre." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160065-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160065-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160065.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32600" class="wp-caption-text">The Business Centre.</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>6. Welcome Plate of Fruit</strong></span><br />
This was the first time I&#8217;ve ever checked into a hotel room to be given a welcome plate of fruit. The healthy option, nice touch guys.</p>
<div id="attachment_32630" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160022.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32630" class="size-medium wp-image-32630" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160022-400x300.jpg" alt="A welcome plate of fruit." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160022-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160022-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160022.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32630" class="wp-caption-text">A welcome plate of fruit.</p></div>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">7. Buffet Breakfast</span></strong><br />
I went on a pub crawl in Windsor on the Friday night and on Saturday morning, I got up early ready for the big breakfast. In the main restaurant is a massive buffet breakfast with a huge range, this is a great place to try a traditional English breakfast &#8211; they even have black pudding (dried pork slices) which is one of my personal favourites. Washed down with a juice (they had strawberry, pear, apple and orange when I was there) and a pot of English tea.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160110.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-32578" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160110-400x300.jpg" alt="P1160110" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160110-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160110-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160110.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a> <a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160107.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-32575" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160107-400x300.jpg" alt="P1160107" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160107-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160107-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160107.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a> <a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160104.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-32572" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160104-400x300.jpg" alt="P1160104" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160104-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160104-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160104.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a> <a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160103.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-32571" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160103-400x300.jpg" alt="P1160103" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160103-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160103-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160103.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">8. Relaxing Lounges</span></strong><br />
The Sir Christopher Wren is a pretty old school English building. The interior is one of elegant décor and you can relax in one of the lounges. One, has a fireplace which would be a top spot on a cold winter night. There is also a bar.</p>
<div id="attachment_32621" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160013.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32621" class="size-medium wp-image-32621" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160013-400x300.jpg" alt="One of the relaxing lounges." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160013-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160013-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160013.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32621" class="wp-caption-text">One of the relaxing lounges.</p></div>
<div id="attachment_32623" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160015.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32623" class="size-medium wp-image-32623" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160015-400x300.jpg" alt="Another of the relaxing lounges." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160015-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160015-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160015.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32623" class="wp-caption-text">Another of the relaxing lounges.</p></div>
<div id="attachment_32602" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160067.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32602" class="size-medium wp-image-32602" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160067-400x300.jpg" alt="Lounge and bar" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160067-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160067-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160067.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32602" class="wp-caption-text">Lounge and bar</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>9. Fast, Reliable Wi-Fi</strong></span><br />
You knew I wouldn&#8217;t pick a hotel where you have to pay extra for wi-fi and the in room Wi-Fi is fast and reliable, plus you can get wi-fi basically anywhere in the hotel.</p>
<div id="attachment_32626" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160018.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32626" class="size-medium wp-image-32626" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160018-400x300.jpg" alt="My room with its Wifi corner and desk." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160018-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160018-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160018.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32626" class="wp-caption-text">My room with its Wifi corner and desk.</p></div>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">10. Functions</span></strong><br />
Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa offers all types of functions, private rooms and parties and they do a lot of weddings. In Summer months with the Thames just out the window and a massive beer garden, it&#8217;s a perfect place for your party. There are also some rumours that celebrities have stayed here, so you might bump into someone famous, you&#8217;re staying in the town of the Queen, after all&#8230;</p>
<div id="attachment_32611" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160004.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32611" class="size-medium wp-image-32611" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160004-400x300.jpg" alt="A great place for weddings and parties." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160004-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160004-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160004.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32611" class="wp-caption-text">A great place for weddings and parties.</p></div>
<p>So on another fast journey in life, that was that &#8211; a quick but pleasant stay here in the Sir Christopher Wren and I headed back to London for my best mate&#8217;s 30th birthday next. Windsor is a really cool town to stay in and I recommend staying at the <a href="http://www.agoda.com/sir-christopher-wren-hotel-spa/hotel/london-gb.html?cid=1613714" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa</a> when you come here. I also had a tasty dinner in the hotel which I will feature in my Friday&#8217;s Featured Food series at some point:</p>

<p>My recent travels in England took me to the town of Windsor (&amp; Eton) in Berkshire for what I thought was the first time. However I realised that back in 2000 I had actually visited the Legoland nearby, so this on my return to the town of Windsor on another backpacking journey, was a chance to chill out in the comfort of the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa, meet up with my <a title="Cabo De Hornos: Seeing Cape Horn – It’s Not A Dream!" href="https://dontstopliving.net/cabo-de-hornos-cape-horn-its-not-a-dream/" target="_blank">Antarctica travel buddy Paul Gray</a> and go out for drinks with Jill Moran, who was my manager in <a title="Working Wednesdays: A Tribute to My Friends and Heroes of PJs Parramatta, Australia" href="https://dontstopliving.net/working-wednesdays-a-tribute-to-my-friends-and-heroes-pjs-parramatta-australia/" target="_blank">PJ Gallagher&#8217;s Irish Pub in Parramatta</a> 5 years ago. Reunions aside, what a setting for it &#8211; the town of Windsor is gorgeous.</p>

Trains are frequent and cosy, A return price varies but mine cost just over £20. The journey takes around 50 minutes.</p>

<p>Once in Windsor &amp; Eton, I checked out some of these top 5 sights in Windsor, though there is easily enough here to occupy you for a couple of days &#8211; Legoland on its own can be a day trip.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>1. Windsor Castle</strong></span><br />
This is the number one sight. The Queen lives here! Tourists from all over the world come here to see this glorious English building.</p>
<div id="attachment_32567" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150979.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32567" class="size-medium wp-image-32567" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150979-400x300.jpg" alt="Windsor Castle, Berkshire, England." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150979-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150979-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150979.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32567" class="wp-caption-text">Windsor Castle, Berkshire, England.</p></div>
<p>The rule is that if the Union Flag (Union Jack) is raised, then the Queen&#8217;s at home and it was when I was there. So for one night I was sharing a town with Queen Elizabeth the Second!</p>
<div id="attachment_32642" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160046.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32642" class="size-medium wp-image-32642" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160046-400x300.jpg" alt="Outside Windsor Castle the day the Queen was at home." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160046-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160046-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160046.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32642" class="wp-caption-text">Outside Windsor Castle the day the Queen was at home.</p></div>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>2. The Thames</strong></span><br />
The Thames is at its most tranquil and idyllic here. Away from the bustling smoky fumes of crowded London, take some time to relax by the Thames here in Windsor. The Sit Christopher Wren Hotel has a fantastic Thames side restaurant and you can walk at leisure along the river feeding the swans and ducks.</p>
<div id="attachment_32604" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150993.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32604" class="size-medium wp-image-32604" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150993-400x300.jpg" alt="Swans by the Thames in Windsor, Berkshire." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150993-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150993-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150993.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32604" class="wp-caption-text">Swans by the Thames in Windsor, Berkshire.</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>3. The Crooked House</strong></span><br />
This is one of the most peculiar and famous pubs in all of England. A house that is tilted on its side. Pop in for a pint or a cup of tea. In fact, Windsor is an awesome town for a pub crawl.</p>
<div id="attachment_32566" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150978.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32566" class="size-medium wp-image-32566" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150978-400x300.jpg" alt="The Crooked House Pub in Windsor, Berkshire, England." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150978-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150978-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1150978.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32566" class="wp-caption-text">The Crooked House Pub in Windsor, Berkshire, England.</p></div>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>4. Legoland Windsor</strong></span><br />
Back in the year 2000 I visited Legoland Windsor. I&#8217;ve always been a huge fan of Lego from when I was a child. Ticket prices vary, and are listed on the <a href="http://www.legoland.co.uk/Plan/tickets/" target="_blank">official Legoland Windsor website</a>.</p>
<div id="attachment_32643" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screenshot-2014-11-11-19.58.33.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32643" class="size-medium wp-image-32643" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screenshot-2014-11-11-19.58.33-400x268.png" alt="Legoland, Windsor." width="400" height="268" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screenshot-2014-11-11-19.58.33-400x268.png 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screenshot-2014-11-11-19.58.33-615x412.png 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screenshot-2014-11-11-19.58.33.png 684w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32643" class="wp-caption-text">Legoland, Windsor.</p></div>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>5. Eton College</strong></span><br />
Most people know the town as Windsor, but it&#8217;s actually two towns joined together by a bridge across the Thames. Walk across it and you get to the town of Eton, which of course houses the world famous Eton College. It&#8217;s a 5 minute walk from the bridge.</p>
<div id="attachment_32641" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160128.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32641" class="size-medium wp-image-32641" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160128-400x300.jpg" alt="Hanging out at Eton College." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160128-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160128-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160128.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32641" class="wp-caption-text">Hanging out at Eton College.</p></div>
<p>Tours of Eton College can be organised from £7.50. Famous people like Prince William, Antarctic Explorer Lawrence Oates, Adventurer Bear Grylls and authors George Orwell and Ian Fleming studied here.</p>
<div id="attachment_32638" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160124.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-32638" class="size-medium wp-image-32638" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160124-400x300.jpg" alt="Halls of residence at Eton College." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160124-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160124-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/P1160124.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-32638" class="wp-caption-text">Halls of residence at Eton College.</p></div>
<p>Eton has also produced a whopping nineteen British Prime Ministers, including Sir Robert Walpole, William Pitt the Elder, the first Duke of Wellington, William Ewart Gladstone, the fifth Lord Rosebery, Arthur James Balfour, Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan, Alec Douglas-Home, and the current Prime Minister, David Cameron.</p>
<p>Those are just a quick fire top 5 for you when you hit up Windsor. I recommend staying at the <a href="http://www.agoda.com/sir-christopher-wren-hotel-spa/hotel/london-gb.html?cid=1613714" target="_blank">Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Spa</a>:</p>

<div id="attachment_14028" style="width: 625px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0920.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-14028" class="wp-image-14028 size-large" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0920-615x461.jpg" alt="porridge in belarus" width="615" height="461" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0920-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0920-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0920.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-14028" class="wp-caption-text">Friday&#8217;s Featured Food: Belarussian Porridge in Bobruisk, Belarus.</p></div>
<p>The porridge arrives on my breakfast table next to my orange juice and my cup of tea. I was expecting normal porridge. But then again &#8220;what is normal?&#8221;. Was that porridge I had as a child growing up in Northern Ireland the normal stuff? That was just my opinion wasn&#8217;t it? For the record I used to eat Quaker Oats porridge growing up. Most of the year, once a day, in the morning , especially in cold winters.</p>
<div id="attachment_14029" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0918.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-14029" class="size-medium wp-image-14029" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0918-400x300.jpg" alt="bobruisk belarus" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0918-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0918-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0918.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-14029" class="wp-caption-text">The Tourist Hotel in Bobruisk, Belarus.</p></div>
<p>However I kind of neglected porridge when I started travelling and indeed I hadn&#8217;t had it for many years the day I arrived ridiculously into the city of Bobruisk. Bobruisk is one of the most obscure places I have ever been. A city in eastern Belarus, not far from the site of the horrible Chernobyl disaster (which occurred just across the border into the Ukraine). I ended up staying by the Berezina River in the Hotel Tourist in Bobruisk. There were no backpackers or hostels in Bobruisk back in 2007 when I visited. There may be now.</p>
<div id="attachment_14030" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0017.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-14030" class="size-medium wp-image-14030" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0017-400x300.jpg" alt="belarus train bobruisk" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0017-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0017-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0017.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-14030" class="wp-caption-text">The crazy train ride from Minsk to Bobruisk back in 2007.</p></div>
<p>Anyway I got a crazy train from Minsk out to Bobruisk for a football match and after hitching a cheap ride to the hotel (story for another day) I chilled out. Next morning it was down to the dining room for breakfast. When porridge arrived it had these random &#8220;sweets&#8221; in it. I scoffed the lot in next to no time as I was just hungry after the latest bit of travel (had been in Russia and China before Belarus). But the porridge was horrible!!</p>
<div id="attachment_14031" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0919.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-14031" class="size-medium wp-image-14031" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0919-400x300.jpg" alt="Breakfast table in the Hotel Tourist all ready for the day ahead, in Bobruisk." width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0919-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0919-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0919.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-14031" class="wp-caption-text">Breakfast table in the Hotel Tourist all ready for the day ahead, in Bobruisk.</p></div>
<p>I had been having breakfast with the entire Northern Ireland ladies football team and their backroom staff including David Currie (from the IFA) and Alfie Wylie (head coach) so it wasn&#8217;t like a lonely breakfast experience. The room was full and everyone agreed the porridge was disgusting. Somehow we all ate it. Next morning it was back to cornflakes for me and jam on toast. In the end the football match turned out to be a <a title="Five Nil and you still dont sing!" href="https://dontstopliving.net/five-nil-and-you-still-dont-sing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">5-0 defeat to Belarus</a>. Maybe, just maybe it was the yucky porridge that did it.</p>
<div id="attachment_14032" style="width: 410px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0925.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-14032" class="size-medium wp-image-14032" src="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0925-400x300.jpg" alt="breakfast in bobruisk" width="400" height="300" srcset="https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0925-400x300.jpg 400w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0925-615x461.jpg 615w, https://dontstopliving.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PICT0925.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-14032" class="wp-caption-text">Lots of us together for breakfast in Bobruisk, Belarus.</p></div>
<p>I haven&#8217;t been back to Belarus since (just done Armenia, Georgia, Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan though) and still wonder if the locals actually like this stuff. Happy eating my friends, Belarussian porridge is one of the worst dishes I&#8217;ve ever had.</p>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Manic Street Preachers first came into my ears about 20 years ago, in 1992 when on a chance radio listen, I was enthused by their hit single &#8220;Suicide Is Painless&#8221; (Theme From M.A.S.H.). At the time I didn&#8217;t realise it was a cover version, nor knew anything about this band. As the 90s progressed I spent manys a teenage year being typically British. This meant buying the NME, listening to BBC Radio 1 and Radio 5, watching football and listening to British music. I would say there were 3 main bands that I listened to at the time and they would have been Oasis (English), Manic Street Preachers (Welsh) and Ash (Northern Irish). I still love all 3, and for different reasons. Oasis gave me that attitude and belief. They gave us happy songs for bad days (&#8220;some might say that sunshine follows thunder&#8221;). Ash gave me local heroes &#8211; hailing from Northern Ireland&#8217;s Downpatrick, seeing them on TFI Friday and Top of The Pops was just amazing. And beneath it all lay the complexity of Manic Street Preachers. A band with worldly knowledge, political opinion, pure rock n roll and indecipherable lyrics. I was intrigued more by the Manics than the other two, just because they were a little more off the beaten track. You can&#8217;t imagine Oasis writing a song called &#8220;Die In The Summertime&#8221;.</span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lK9Az20xSTk/T8HubccHdlI/AAAAAAAAWFY/bM1Xwp-95f0/s1600/11791_10150792467490988_599215987_9803549_1598881461_n.jpg" rel="nofollow"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lK9Az20xSTk/T8HubccHdlI/AAAAAAAAWFY/bM1Xwp-95f0/s400/11791_10150792467490988_599215987_9803549_1598881461_n.jpg" alt="" width="297" height="400" border="0" /></a></span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Time passed on from the 90s rock&#8217;n&#8217;roll and I myself became more worldy managing to visit every continent by the age of 30 and travelling to 64 countries in the process. Away went my Walkman and portable CD player and out came my iPod. With Manic Street Preachers holding some great travel memories and journeys for me. I chimed &#8220;Antarctic&#8221; on my iPod just before my trip to the cold continent in 2010 and on a New Zealand bus, in 2007 &#8220;Send Away The Tigers&#8221; sent me to a dreamy sleep before I had even stepped foot in China or Taiwan. I will never tire of listening to Manic Street Preachers. But alas I had missed out on seeing them live for almost a decade, through my own eagerness to explore. So last week, on Friday 18th May 2012 at Studio Coast Arena at Shin Kiba in Tokyo, Japan I saw the band live again. Amazing really.</span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FjYHH95cC9g/T8HucI3ApQI/AAAAAAAAWFc/jKJScOzhApo/s1600/119823134766.jpg" rel="nofollow"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FjYHH95cC9g/T8HucI3ApQI/AAAAAAAAWFc/jKJScOzhApo/s400/119823134766.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="400" border="0" /></a></span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have borrowed and used a few photos from the Manic Street Preachers forum &#8220;Forever Delayed&#8221; and some other fans for this report, including the one above which was a copy of the setlist for the gig the night before the one we were at. That was Thursday 17th May 2012. Manic Street Preachers played TWO Asian dates, both at the same venue in the Japanese capital city. Of course I desperately wanted to go to both gigs, but I live in Hong Kong and work Monday &#8211; Saturday at the moment, so taking 2 days off for this trip was already a lot. I also wasn&#8217;t sure how to get tickets for the gig, as I had never been to Japan. Have no fear, as I have a few mates in Japan, including 2 Japanese guys I met travelling and my former workmate Kenjo. I messaged Suzuki and he was able to sort out two tickets no problem for myself and Neil Armstrong (not the same guy who once stepped on the moon, but another Northern Irish man living in Hong Kong with a taste for Guinness, randomness , music and football). So &#8211; gig tickets were sorted &#8211; time off work was sorted and the flights were booked. This is a report on the gig only &#8211; my travel stories on Tokyo and Japan will follow at some point&#8230;</span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hzZlfHkN_Ms/T8HucVywVtI/AAAAAAAAWFo/vswA4BQU2Gs/s1600/165975_437661089579722_127117060634128_1701596_1656443670_n.jpg" rel="nofollow"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hzZlfHkN_Ms/T8HucVywVtI/AAAAAAAAWFo/vswA4BQU2Gs/s400/165975_437661089579722_127117060634128_1701596_1656443670_n.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="400" border="0" /></a></span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The setlist for the Friday night gig we were at &#8211; very different from the gig I had been at in 2005. </span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GuiaY67Q1l8/T8Hue5qIilI/AAAAAAAAWF4/RalTttCQ51s/s1600/DSCF0374.JPG" rel="nofollow"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GuiaY67Q1l8/T8Hue5qIilI/AAAAAAAAWF4/RalTttCQ51s/s400/DSCF0374.JPG" alt="" width="297" height="400" border="0" /></a></span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The book I was reading in the month leading up to the gig. This was released in 2010 and is an EXCELLENT read. The author has covered their entire career also focusing on the mystery that still surrounds the mysterious disappearance of genius lyricist Richey James Edwards.</span></div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Neil and I arrived in Japan and checked into our hostel at ShinaGAWA. We then went to meet Suzuki late afternoon at Shibuya. Suzuki had got us the tickets and we wanted to take him for a beer and something to eat. Neil wasn&#8217;t keen to get to the venue early and see the support act, but I knew that Gruff Rhys the support act would start early, around 7pm, with the Manics on stage shortly after. I somehow knew we would miss the start of the gig, and from a selfish perspective if I&#8217;d been on my own, I&#8217;d probably have headed there very early! And just have a drink near the venue.</span></div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Having a beer with Suzuki at Shibuya in a bar called Scramble. Tokyo was hot. Suzuki was not going to the gig with us, but passed us the tickets and we went for another drink in a bar called Abbots Choice at Roppongi. I was wearing my blue Manic Street Preachers T-Shirt which I had originally bought in May 1999 at a gig in The King&#8217;s Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland. If live was to go full circle yet again then I was with Neil, a Larne man and the support band for the night was to be Gruff Rhys, formerly of the Super Furry Animals who supported the Manics in Belfast back in 1999.</span></div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In there we had a Guinness, a bite to eat and a shot of Jagermeister. When we left there the gig had already started, so I wanted to rush!</span></div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When we got to the train station at Shin Kiba, the area was empty. <div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Another excellent one for the collection. A 2012 style Manic Street Preachers T-Shirt. Think this cost about 3,000 Japanese Yen &#8211; so about 30 pounds. Yes I could make it for less than 3 pounds but I&#8217;m a sucker for this type of random spontaneous souvenir, so I bought one. Neil did too. Nice T-Shirt, nice memory.</span></div>
