FlightHub’s Best Canadian Destinations For Backpackers
While some enjoy visiting tropical locations with resorts or urban centres filled with malls and other tourist attractions, the diehards will always love backpacking across vast expanses, parks, and other more rural areas. Canada is a massive country and as such is loaded with experiences just like this thanks to its natural beauty and largely untouched remote areas. FlightHub recently released their list of top destinations in Canada. Using this FlightHub review, combined with my days backpacking in Canada and my family days there, I have put together a list of the best starting points for your Canadian backpacking adventures.
Family times in Toronto, Canada
1.Vancouver, British Columbia
Vancouver, FlightHub’s second most popular Canadian destination is first up, and that is because seeing as its almost December you may want to start somewhere on the warmer side. Vancouver is one of the most temperate environments in Canada, routinely seeing minimal snowfall throughout the traditionally harsh Canadian Winter. Vancouver is also located in one of my biologically diverse ecosystems in Canada, sitting just west of Interior British Columbia which is home to some of Canada’s oldest and most spectacular forests. Just be on the lookout for bears!
2.Toronto, Ontario
Toronto is Canada’s largest and most busy city, making it no surprise it topped the FlightHub Canadian destination list. But, to the North lies Ontario’s crown jewel, Algonquin Provincial Park. Situated a few hundred kilometres North of the city, this area sits in the centre of the Canadian Shield. The Canadian Shield is a chunk of rock that dates back almost four billion years, and makes up the foundation that Canada and much of North America rests on. Comprised largely of igneous rock, the Canadian Shield tells the story of Canada’s volcanic history. It was also in Toronto of course, where I “stole” the catchphrase “Don’t Stop Living” which was graffitied onto a high school wall in 2001.

3.Calgary, Alberta
Calgary is home to the Calgary Stampede, an annual rodeo that takes place in July and unifies the cowboys and cowgirls of North America. But just to the West of this city, which ranked third on the FlightHub list, lies Banff. Banff is arguably the most beautiful city in Canada. Located on the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and the Alberta side of the Rocky Mountains, Banff is home to some of the best skiing, hiking, and adventuring Canada has to offer. In addition to mountains, Banff also rests at the confluence of both the Bow and Spray Rivers.

Canada is a country filled with natural wonders, friendly people, and vast expanses. It should come as no surprise that it is a known haven for backpackers, hikers, and outdoorsman.
