2016 saw my first ever visit to Gdańsk and those used to my travel blog the last 5 months will know I have based myself in this city, and helped promote it to my friends, family and followers. After deciding to hang up my backpack here in Gdańsk in August 2016, I was settling into life in this new city. But once my rent contract expired, I decided I could play tourist and backpacker again in my own city. This time, I stayed on the Stare Miasto side of the river, basing myself in the trendy and extremely clean 4Friends Hostel.
I booked myself into a 4-bed male dorm with a window view over the river and some of my friends were visiting me from Bournemouth. If you are coming to Gdańsk soon, here are 4reasons to stay at 4Friends Hostel.
1.Stare Miasto Location
Located on Ulica Dlugie Pobrzeze overlooking the river in Gdańsk, this place is a prime location for all the sightseeing you will want to do. The Stare Miasto is the Old Town of Gdańsk and 4Friends is here in the heart of it.
You are only a few minutes walk from The Crane, Neptune’s Fountain, Old Town Square and indeed the Post Office where the Second World War began.
2.Top Floor Common Room
I loved the top floor common room. It has stunning views over the town and is cosy. You can read and cook here. There is also a computer with internet and a TV. There is a library, cosy sofas and tea and coffee is free. The kitchen has a fridge and you can cook your own food here.
3.Clean Rooms and Bathrooms
My room was pristinely clean and the bathrooms were all incredible modern and impeccable. I was in a 4 bed dorm (room 5) and had 2 great nights sleep here. WiFi works throughout the building and each bed has a personal locker which comes with a key.
4.New Friends at the 4Friends
It is quite a cosy hostel based on 5 floors and due to the small common room and dorms, you will find it easy to make new friends here. I roomed with some guys from Hungary and Slovakia and I also met the staff from Poland and Ukraine.
Gdańsk is a liveable city for any backpacker and the amount of people you can meet here who are interested in new friends is high. You might also have read that I did a cycling tour with Hostel Cycle On, I toured the Wall Murals of Zaspa and I did a pub crawl.
Gdańsk is a beautiful city and deserves at least a few days to explore its charms.

Solid looking place … if my travels take me through Gdansk, I’ll definitely consider staying there!
Hi Jane, Thanks for the comment, definitely the place to visit. Safe travels. Jonny
Hostels are always a hit and miss for me. On one hand, maybe you end up with nice people and make new friends, but on the other hand you might end up with irritaning room mates. It’s like playing the lottery, you can’t know how it goes.
Hi Luminita, thanks for the comment. I agree with you but my love of travel was always based around hostels and backpacking it in the early days so it has been a welcome return for me. I mix them up with hotel rooms nowadays though. Safe travels. Jonny
