In August 2007, I first visited Czechia, when this blog was only just released. On that trip, I arrived by flight into Prague and we backpacked Prague hardcore. I was with Lock In Lee Adams on that trip. I left by train to Decin, then onto Leipzig in Germany by train also. Despite passing through Czechia on trains twice since, I never left the train stations on those trips and so here, in October 2019, this was only my second time in Prague. A few photos from 2007, for old times sake…
This time I was here for the Czechia v. Northern Ireland football match (which we won 3-2!) and also to visit the Kingdom of Wallachia (a 1997 declared micronation). I had hoped to also backpack to Other World Kingdom, but my visa was declined. So Prague for two days and two nights and I chose to stay at the simply MEGA Plus Prague Hostel! This was a great choice for so many reason, but here are just 5 reasons to stay here.
1.Avoids The Old Town
Plus Prague Hostel Avoids the Old Town. It’s located on Privozni in the Holešovice – Manini district. As someone who always tries my best to avoid crowds and popular parts of the city, the location here was superb. Well away from tourist crowds and with some cool bars and restaurants nearby, including the famous Cross Club, where I partied in 2007 and returned in 2019 for lunch.
2.Free Wi-Fi Throughout
I was in Room 10, a shared mixed double dorm with 8 beds, 4 in each of the two sides. Wi-Fi worked in my room, from my bed, in the corridor and also in the common room.
3.Cosy Dorm Rooms
I was in dorm room 10, on the same floor as the reception. Once you go in the door, there are two rooms each with 4 beds. We shared a mini kitchette between 8 of us, with a kettle, fridge and microwave. Between 4 of us we shared an ensuite shower room. The rooms were tidy and cosy and I got a great two nights sleep here.
4.Huge Chill Out Area and Bar
It’s a great place to meet new people at the huge chill out area in reception. Grab a beer and a chat. Play pool, or head across the car park to the Opera Bar.
5.Gym, Sauna, Pool
Down the years I have stayed in hundreds of hostels, but rarely did they have a gym, pool AND sauna! This place is really good for a relaxing stay in the Czech capital.
Aside from all of this, the hostel is near to metro, tram and bus stops. They also sell transport tickets on reception making it very easy to organise your travels from here. I also enjoyed lunch nearby in the magnificent Cross Club (which I also visited with Lee back in 2007). Though I only stayed for two nights, I wish it had been longer as this would be a really cool textbook backpacker hostel and I’m delighted that I stayed here! Here are a few more photos from my time here in Prague.

Here are some videos I made on my trip to Prague, Czechia:
All wines we tasted were fantastic, but we settled on the Cab and a short walk down a shady limestone path to a multi-level covered deck overlooking the San Marcos River to enjoy watching folks tubing the river and the pleasant breezes.
Hi Emma, Thanks for the comment and for checking my website. Apologies for the delay in response. Unfortunately I have been suffering from long-term depression caused by a liar and I wasn’t checking all comments and messages or replying. I hope you enjoyed my article on Czechia. Stay safe. Jonny
