Backpacking in Bulgaria: Top 10 Sights in Plovdiv Old Town.

The city of Plovdiv is somewhat undermined. It’s Bulgaria’s second biggest city yet bobs along almost unheard of to those who haven’t been there. It made a natural stop off city for me in between exploring the medieval town of Veliko Tarnovo and a dose of Sofia the capital. I knew I would only stay a night in Plovdiv so I based myself naturally in the Old Town as personally this is where I feel Plovdiv’s charm lies.

I chose the Old Town Plovdiv hostel, which welcomed me in style…

My stay in the Old Plovdiv Guest House, Bulgaria.

In a day you can certainly explore the Old Town of Plovdiv and enjoy a decent night out. That was my plan and that was exactly what I did. The Old Town is full of poky cobbled streets and littered with old traditional buildings with a few surprises in store. It dates back a bit further than Bulgarian times. The Romans were here you know. These are my personal top 10 sights in the old town. Unfortunately Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia and Kosovo are three countries that I lost my photos from and so I don’t really have much proof that I backpacked all these. In fact, I also wrote this as a long blog post in 2014 and never published it as I felt maybe I could recover those photos. I never did, so I may have to go back there one day just to add photos and better descriptions.
