4 Things to do When Visiting Broward County, Florida

Whatever the case may be, ideally, you’ll find some time to enjoy yourself. Let’s talk about some of the top things you can do in Broward County, according to online travel sites and people who live there.

Protect Your Personal Safety While You’re There

Before we jump into some of the things you might do while you’re there, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that you should watch out for your safety in Broward County. While most people don’t consider it a particularly dangerous part of the state, there is crime there, just like anywhere else. Taking a common-sense approach should help keep you out of danger, not to mention any other family members with whom you are traveling.

Make sure not to go walking around at night in unfamiliar territory. Wear lots of sunscreen during the days since this part of Florida sees some punishingly hot weather during summer’s height. Also, don’t flash a lot of cash when you’re walking around, or you could attract pickpockets or more brazen robbers.

Now, on to some of the fun things you can do in this part of the state.

You Can Visit the Fort Lauderdale Beaches

Fort Lauderdale is in Broward County, and most people would agree that those are some of the nicest beaches you will find anywhere in the state. If you do a little bit of research beforehand, you should find both public beaches and private ones.

The private beaches usually belong to hotels. If you pay to stay at one of those hotels, you can use those beaches. You can splash around in the surf with your family on hot days, or you can set up an umbrella and read a book or magazine in the shade. You can even take a little nap and forget about your troubles for a time.

While you’re on the beach, you might consider wearing flip-flops. You’ll sometimes encounter broken glass or even discarded needles. Some parts of Broward County have drug problems, and you never want a discarded syringe sticking in your foot.

Check Out One of Broward County’s Parks or Nature Centers

You might also decide to take the family and check out one of Broward County’s many parks or nature centers while you’re there. You will find several great ones that are adjacent to some of the County’s best hotels.

You can pack up some Travel Gear Lab luggage and pick out the hotel that seems the most attractive to you. Travel Gear gets rave reviews online because of its durability.

The locals tend to regard the Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center as one of the best choices due to the many birds and other animals that frequent it. It’s a great place to bring some binoculars to see what waterfowl you can spot. That’s in Bowie, Florida.

You might also stop by the Secret Woods Nature Center in Fort Lauderdale. It has a charming name, and it’s very close to some of the best-regarded hotels in all of Broward County.

The Fern Forest Nature Center is also a winner. It’s in Coconut Creek, FL. Just be careful to stay well clear of the water since this is prime gator territory.

You Can Go for a Drive Through Oakland Park

The Oakland Park section of Broward County is one of the wealthiest and most affluent areas. It’s fun to drive around and check out all the golf courses and gated communities. They also have plenty of chances for fine dining and shopping.

You can pick up a souvenir for your friends and family members back home, and you can take lots of pictures that you can post to your social media accounts. If you do decide to go into some of the high-end boutiques, you’ll find elegant formalwear and jewelry, but prepare yourself to max out your credit card since only the wealthiest Broward County residents spend most of their time there.

You Can Take a Riverboat or Kayak Ride

You will also find that people in Broward County love “the salt life,” as many of them call it. That means getting out on the water and experiencing a day fishing or cruising around. You might charter a boat that can take you out on the ocean, or maybe you’d prefer to explore the everglades.

If you’re an experienced captain, you should have no trouble renting your own watercraft and getting out there for some fishing or waterskiing. If you have never piloted a boat, though, it’s probably best that you get someone else to handle those duties for you. An experienced crew can make sure your family stays safe, and they can also show you some of the best fishing spots.

If you are not an angler, you might prefer that the crew take you to a place where you can spot some of the local animals and maybe snap some pictures of them in their natural habitat. Getting some shots of birds, gators, snakes, and more can be a lot of fun, and you can cherish those pictures later. They’ll remind you of the great time that you and your family had.

Broward County has a lot to offer the locals and tourists alike. If you are ready to take your first trip since the pandemic started, it should be at the top of your list.
