This year, millions of people are going to be jetting abroad to go on holiday and visit all of their dream countries. Naturally, they’ll be plenty of layovers along the way — especially for people going on long-distance journeys o rlong term whackpackers like me who love a good stopover and day tour, like recently when I backpacked Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
Nobody likes airport layovers. Not even the most avid travelers enjoy the process of having to make their way through the airport to find their connecting flight. After all, it’s a very tiring experience.
Luckily, in 2023, you no longer need to stress about airport layovers. No matter which airport you’re at or the airlines you’re flying with, there are plenty of fun ways you can kill time in-between your connecting flights.
So, if you’re currently sitting in an airport, bored out of your mind with a few hours to kill, here are some genius suggestions for you to try.
1. Play Online Casino Games
Like most people, you probably fly with at least one smartphone. Whether you’re an iPhone or Android owner, you can use your smartphone to play some online casino games with real money. Some of the most popular casino games to play while traveling include:
- Online roulette
- Online video poker
- Online slots
Typically, these games are very short and filled with short bursts of excitement. This makes them perfect for killing time when you’re stuck in a crowded airport and counting down the minutes until you can board your next flight. If you’re a beginner, then it’s recommended that you start with casino online roulette, as this is the easiest game to play out of them all.
Pro tip: most airports have free WIFI. You can connect to the airport WIFI if you want to save data while playing all of the best online casino games.
2. Go to the Spa
Some – but not all – airports have spas. This is great news for the people out there who easily get groggy and tired when flying. After a 1-hour spa treatment, you’ll be feeling fresh and ready to go before boarding your next flight. Plus, because your muscles are now more relaxed, you’ll sleep much better on the flight. It’s a no-brainer.
3. Explore the City You’re In
Sometimes, layovers can be painfully long. If you find yourself stuck in a 3+ layover, then you can use it as an opportunity to get out and explore the city you’re currently in, whether it’s London or Paris. You might even have time to do some shopping and get some nice pictures for Instagram, too.
4. FaceTime Your Friend
If you’re traveling alone, you can kill some time by using your smartphone to FaceTime your friend. This way, you’ll be able to have a chat and catch up with a familiar voice, which will ultimately distract you from the boredom of the airport.
5. Listen to a Podcast
Finally, if you’ve brought some earphones or headphones with you, listen to a podcast. Podcasts are great because they’re 20-40 minutes long on average. Therefore, if you listen to 3-5 podcasts, you’ll easily be able to pass a couple of hours like it’s nothing.
