Central America continues to impress me with its range of unique, tranquil and simply comfortable guesthouses and yes I’ve been mixing my vintage backpacking hostels (like El Hostal Antigua) with some decent upmarket places (like Hotel San Buenaventura) as quite frankly, it’s nice to be able to mix things up nowadays. Of course at heart I’m still a hardcore backpacker, but with bus bugs and bed bugs (in Casa Atitlan, San Pedro, Guatemala), I’m leaning to a decent bed these days!!
When I finally left El Salvador, I decided on a quick trip into Honduras to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Copan Ruinas, and after a few days of chicken buses all over El Salvador and then the border crossings, La Casa de Cafe was just the place I needed  to chill on my first night in Honduras. This opened in 1995 and therefore was the first Bed and Breakfast in the town. Owner Howard saw a gap in the market when clearly there wasn’t much tourism back then. Now Copan Ruinas is becoming popular and there are more Guesthouses, Hotels and Hostels than you’d believe.
La Casa de Cafe is in Copan Ruinas, which is a small town. La Casa de Cafe is a place to relax – it’s safe and so is the town itself. In fact the town is fairly relaxing as a whole and feels like it’s custom made just because of the ruins but yet it’s still not too touristy for you to feel nothing is authentic. I liked the town. Most people pass in and out of Copan Ruinas quite quickly, and I was the same in fact – I went there to see the World Heritage Site, some birds and got an impromptu tour of the German Micro Brewery too. But I needed a cosy place to relax, blog and believe it or not – sleep!
La Casa de Cafe is ranked highly on Trip Advisor and I can see why!! Here are 5 reasons why La Casa De Cafe was just perfect and would be a great choice for any traveller to Copan.
1. Views!
From the balcony in front of my room, I had a view of the mountains and countryside. The view got even better when you went upstairs to the patio.
2. Fast Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fi here is fast. The owners themselves know all about the travel industry, Howard who runs the place is an established writer and travel expert with a story or two to tell. Hence he respects the fact that modern travellers (and travel bloggers and writers) rely on a fast connection!
3. Great Food (and Coffee!!)
The restaurant here is voted the 4th best in town by Trip Advisor and it’s easy to see why. They cook everything fresh here for you. The breakfast is excellent and you have to try the coffee!!
4. Ambient, Peaceful Gardens
The gardens in La Casa de Cafe have an air of optimism about them. I just felt good here. I kind of came to Copan to recharge my travel batteries for a day, as Panny and I were travelling separate for a few more days and I spent some time in the gardens relaxing, reading, planning and actually for once – being offline for a bit.
5. Comfort
My introduction to Honduras was stuffy, hot and sweaty. After dumping my bags off in my cosy room, the comfort here was the perfect tonic.
