In Ibiza, the nights are for partying and your backpack takes a week off from moving as you do the grooving. But what about during the days? Sure, you could spend half the day sleeping, grab some lunch and start partying all over again as the evening approaches. But there are plenty of other ways to spend your time in Ibiza while you are not clubbing. So yes, here’s a backpacker top 7 for you, a sister post from my Magaluf party days!!
1. Stroll Around The Old Town
Ibiza Town is not only a great place for partying: it is also a historically significant town. If you can spare a few hours, take a leisurely stroll around ‘Dalt Villa’, which is the Old Town. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you can find a number of historic attractions of interest including Eivissa Castle and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows.
2. Hit the Beach
When you start planning your Ibiza 2015 holiday, you’ll surely be thinking about spending at least some of your time soaking up the rays on the beach. For many people, this is the daytime activity of choice in Ibiza, and you will find plenty of beaches to spend your time on.
For the biggest and busiest beaches with plenty of amenities, head to Playa d’en Bossa or the Sunset Strip in San Antonio. For somewhere quieter, head up north to Cala Benirras where you can watch the sunset to the sound of hippies playing their bongos. There are many quiet little coves if you are prepared to go off the beaten track, so perhaps the best option is to rent yourself a car or moped and go exploring.
3. Visit the Can Marça Caves
The Can Marça Caves are one of the most well-known of Ibiza’s natural attractions, and they are certainly worth a visit for a few hours one afternoon. They are located in the north of the island in Sant Miquel de Balansat and date back 100,000 years. They used to be used by smugglers, and you can take a tour inside to see stunning rock formations as well as a music and light show.
4. Charter a Boat
A great way to see another view of the island is to charter a boat with a group of friends. There are many companies operating in Ibiza, and they all provide a wide range of boats to choose from, including yachts, speed boats and sailing boats. Some will provide water sports trips, while some will focus on luxury experiences complete with fine food and champagne. So choose your cruise and spend an afternoon out on the waves, perhaps watching a stunning sunset while you’re at it.
5. Go Scuba Diving
Plenty of companies offer scuba diving in Ibiza, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced diver. There are diving schools in the main towns such as Ibiza Town, and many of them will offer a hotel pickup service to take you out for a day of diving in the clear waters surrounding the island.
6. Enjoy a Scooter Day Tour
There are a number of scooter rental companies to choose from in Ibiza. Some will simply provide you with a scooter along with a list of interesting places to visit, and you can then go off exploring. Others will provide you with a guide who will take you around different places on the island. It’s one of the best ways to discover more of Ibiza, and it’s a lot of fun.
7. Make the Most of Your Time in Ibiza
Ibiza is known for its clubbing and partying, but it also has plenty of things to see and do in between. If you are not too tired after a long night of dancing and partying, make sure you spend your time seeing some of the other interesting attractions and sights in Ibiza, and make the most of your holiday here.
So yes as a backpacker to Ibiza it ain’t all about the nights out, plenty of cool stuff to do in daylight hours. Keep up to date with the parties on Twitter and safe travels to the Spanish Balearics.
