After my trip to Macedonia, I decided to head north into Kosovo and as it’s only a 2 hour bus ride across the border from Skopje, it made sense that I should head to the capital city – Pristina. I wasn’t even sure if there was a backpackers scene in Pristina yet and it turns out there is! I headed to the trendy Buffalo Backpackers.
Situated on a quiet side street, off one of the main roads, the Buffalo was my base while exploring the bars and sights of Pristina. It’s run by a cool Texan lady Chelsea and Xili who is a local Albanian.
1. Location So the Buffalo Backpackers is perfectly located, especially as it’s closer to the bus station than any other hostels or cheap hotels in town. It’s a 10 minute walk from the bus station, even slightly less if you get off the bus at the Hotel Victory.
Heading the other way, Buffalo Backpackers is just 10 minutes walk from the city centre and just 2 minutes walk from Bill Clinton Boulevard.
2. Social Aspect The slogan of Buffalo Backpackers is “it’s like being at a friend’s house” and this rings true. Everyone wants to chat to you and you can easily talk away to everyone in the cosy lounge.
Plus it’s only 10 Euros per bed per night!
3. Free Breakfast Not many hostels in eastern Europe offer a free breakfast but the Buffalo does.
4. Fast Wi-Fi You knew it was coming as it’s now one of the top things I look for in a hostel. Yes the Wi-Fi is fast and reliable here in the Kosovo capital’s best backpackers hostel.
5. Great Information
Kosovo is still a new country and is up and coming. Getting around isn’t widespread knowledge. The hostel owners Chelsea and Xili have you all sorted though. They know all the bus routes, the key sights and they have information boards to help you out. My onwards journey to Montenegro was a breeze because of the guys at Buffalo Backpackers.

Here is a video from my dorm room in Buffalo Backpackers:
I got bed bugs staying here. I showed a staff volunteer who did nothing and still never got a refund. I contacted them after about the situation and even after I went to a doctor who confirmed it was bed bugs after the person who spoke to over social media asked me to keep them updated, no refund. I spent over 100€ cleaning my stuff.
I should have left when they lost my reservation ?
Hi Karen, Sorry to hear about your bed bugs problem in Kosovo, I hope they have it sorted by now. Safe travels. Jonny
As of July 2020 it is closed. Has become a German Sprachschule..
The MOVING tower has also closed since 1 year or so. But Prishtina is as cool as ever
Hi Trevor, Thanks for the comment and for following my story to Pristina. Sorry to hear the Buffalo Backpackers has closed – I really liked it. And the Moving Tower also closed? 🙁 Stay safe! Jonny
