Standing on the banks of the River Thames, London is a city that tends to be warmer and see less snow, rain and freezing temperatures than many other parts of the country. However, it can get really cold sometimes. The weather starts changing around the end of October and is cold right through the end of the March. The upside is that the city looks amazing in the winter.
The major mode of transportation, the Tube, is always warm, and museums and tourists locations are all heated. And if you are visiting the city in the winder, the best option would be to look for budget hotels in Earls Court, such as Hotel Lily, which is a 3 star hotel near Earl Court Exhibition Centre and situated within easy reach of several tourist attractions.
Here are some things you can look forward to when you visit the city in winter.
Feel Scared at the Haunted Pubs
London isn’t short of spooky nooks and crannies. There is the Grenadier Pub on Wilton Road, which is renowned as one of the most haunted pubs in London. The Flask Tavern at Pond Square is home to a ghostly lady, while The Rising Sun is where body snatchers once lurked. Then there’s Bow Bells, where a ghost is in the habit of flushing the ladies toilet when a patron happens to be sitting on it!
Winter Lights at Canary Wharf
The bright lights of Canary Wharf’s towers provide quite a spectacle after dark. Winter Lights returns in 2017 with 30 dazzling artworks, installations and interactive experiences, with many on show in the UK for the first time. The highlights for the show include a live graffiti weekend with works crafted from light. ‘Angels of Freedom’, created by Merav Etan and Gaston Zahr, allow the visitors to transform into angels using photography and social media.
Shake a Leg at Bump Roller Disco
Head down to Bump’s wooden-floored roller disco at the Southbank Centre, if you want to enjoy an evening with your homies. You’ll get the skates right here, which are included in the ticket price.
Enjoy an Enchanted Evening at the Enchanted Woodland
The Enchanted Woodland is a show illuminating some 400 species of trees found on the Syon Park grounds. Syon House is the London home of the Duke of Northumberland and his family. The whole arrangement truly transforms the landscape. You can choose this place for a romantic date with your special someone too.
Ice Skating at Broadgate Ice Rink
It’s been 30 years since the Broadgate Ice Rink popped up in the middle of Broadgate Circle. However, it has recently moved to Exchange Square, where it has made itself a firm favourite for ice skating fans. Its offers include group bookings, skating aids and lessons. There is a pop-up food fair by Urban Food Fest that serves snacks, including triple stack beef burgers, souvlaki, brisket brioche and vegan hotdogs.
