Backpacking in Albania🇦🇱: Staying At Hostel Central Shkodër, Albania

It was meant to be a celebration for me when I finally backpacked in Albania. This was my final country in the UEFA jigsaw. But life has been so depressing the last 5-6 years and even moreso during COVID when travel was stagnant and I had a serious of outrageous accidents and incidents, which cannot even be mentioned on this blog just yet. I was shocked by everything that happened to me recently in life. I think I had some late karma for my teenage misdemeanours, but despite that, with a bruised face and unstable mental condition, I backpacked my way to Shkodër in northern Albania. It’s so close to Montenegro, you can see it from here.

My Albanian mate Shpetim hails from Shkodër so I made sure that I had this city on my Albanian hitlist when I finally reached this Balkanic gem. Shpetim and I used to live together in Warszawa and we met up again here. After staying in Tirana, the capital, I got a bus north to Shkodër.

There are many hotels and hostels in Shkodër but I chose a cheap, central easy dorm option. This was the City Central Hostel in Shkodër. It is located on the top floor of a building in central Shkoder. It was pretty textbook for a backpacker. On my balcony, I have dressed up my face to look good here – the horrors are much worse.

I was in a 4bed dorm, but only one of the other beds was occupied, by a guy from Colorado. This was my room.

It was on Student Street Rruga Studenti, next to the University in the city, where my mate used to study and also randomly near his new shop, his new business! Here are some of the views over the city, from the front of the hostel and from the balcony in my dorm room (at the back).

Out the back, I had a nice balcony view over the city. Shkodër is a good looking city. I enjoyed backpacking it.
