While backpacking in Jamaica, I heard that Usain Bolt owns a bar in the city and for sure I was curious and wanted to have dinner here, and a beer! It was right up my backpacking street! It was to impress me even more than I anticipated, and this just had to be a blog entry on my often neglected Friday’s Featured Food section. Why often neglected? Due to time constraints. I will NEVER have time to write about every meal or restaurant experience on my travels. There are way too many! At the moment, I estimate I have a potential 1000 potential blog posts for Friday’s Featured Food and most of them will never see the light of day. If I was rich in money and had a secretary or a clone of myself, I could do it. For now, I’m picking and choosing and Usain Bolt’s restaurant and bar hit the spot and made the cut. I visited here the same day that I backpacked Bob Marley’s house – what a cool day!

Here it is – Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks & Records!

What is Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records?

Firstly, the name is excellent. It has a double meaning, especially relevant in Jamaica, the home of Ska and Reggae. These are music tracks and records but they are also Usain Bolt’s tracks and records on the athletics park. I also think that “Nuts And Bolts”, “9.58 Seconds” or “19 Records” would be decent titles – Usain Bolt holds a whopping 19 Guinness World Records! On casual days when he not only won Olympic Gold Medals, but he broke the world record for 100 metres and 200 metres sprint! He broke his own world record and has the fastest THREE records for 100 metres. He also played football in the Gold Coast of Australia.

His bar, Tracks and Records is a very trendy and upmarket bar which has style and warmth and feels like a different world from the other bars and restaurants I was in in Jamaica. This place has style and class, worthy of a gold medalist. It also has free W-Fi that is fast and easy to use – this was a complete novelty and scarcity in most bars I frequented on my four ventures to The Caribbean Islands to date (2011, 2014, 2021, 2022).

There is a main bar in the centre, which is a full circle. All the seats and tables are around it, in various sections. There’s an entrance lobby, an upstairs, a shop and some toilets.

The walls are adorned with Usain Bolt images, shirts, records and memorabilia. The waiting area for service is by a football pitch.

The multiple screens show all sorts of sports, including football and athletics. When I was in, Paris St. Germain v. Strasbourg was on the TV.

Where is Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records in Kingston?

Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records is located in the Saint Andrew neighbourhood of Kingston, Jamaica. Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records is inside a mini mall complex with its own car park. That place is known as Market Place. Bolt’s is on the end on the left hand side as you enter the car park from Constant Spring Road. If you look carefully below it is also not far from the Bob Marley House and Museum, which I obvioulsy backpacked to as well.

I found out that Usain Bolt also has a bar in Montego Bay, but Kingston is the one I went to. If I’m ever in Montego Bay, then sure I’d love to visit that one too.

The menu in Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records

The menu proved a real shock – such a huge range of food is available from tacos to pizza to codfish fritters to burgers. As this is a swanky and upmarket bar (at least by Jamaican standards), prices are dearer than roadside shacks of course, but this was no issue to me – I was happy to pay extra for the privilege to be eating and drinking in the bar of the world’s fastest man over 100 metres and 200 metres. In the “Pickins” part of the menu, I chose the Jerk Chicken Taco. Jerk chicken is famous all over Jamaica – it’s specially roasted and with spicy sauce, and I will cover my local Jerk chicken adventures separately.

Just feast your eyes on the menu. Drinks wise, there are a range of local and foreign beers, numerous wines and of course lots of spirits and cocktails. I chose a Royal Jamaican Sorrel Beer.

My meal in Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records

I had the Jerk Chicken Taco on the “Pickins” part of the menu. It cost 1,250 Jamaican Dollars (which is about $9 USD or £8 Northern Irish pounds).

This is described as succulent jerk chicken served with a sweet and tangy cranberry salsa, topped with feta cheese and fresh cilantro. A true Jamaican twist on a crowd favourite. It certainly lived up to its expectations and I loved it.

I chose a Royal Jamaican Sorrel Beer, which is flavoured with local hibiscus flowers, grown in Jamaica. Sorrel is associated with health benefits such as elevating a lower blood pressure and antioxidant properties. Sorrel is rich in Vitamin C and other minerals.

Royal Jamaican is a small craft brewery and this was the only time I drank one of their beers during my stint in Jamaica. Having first drank the famous Red Stripe as a teenager, that was my loyal brand in the country. I just went for the special one because this was a unique and interesting  visit for me to the home of a living legend! Again this was a great choice and a delicious beer.

Finally, the craziness of the slow service…

The oddest thing for me on my visit to Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records is that on arrival, I was ushered by the waitress to sit at the bar. I waited there for about 6 or 7 minutes, nothing happened. The barman didn’t acknowledge me, nor did the waitress even ask what I wanted! Then after 7 minutes, she brought a food menu and I ordered a beer straight away. It took a while to arrive (5 minutes!). Then I ordered the food and it took 20 minutes, not too bad. However, in the bar of the world’s fastest man, this was the slowest ever service for me in any Caribbean bar or restaurant!! And I’ve spent cumulatively about 2 months in these islands, visiting over 100 bars and restaurants across about 20 countries!!

But I’m not complaining about that – everything was good and it was just funny for me. So if you are in Kingston, or Jamaica, then I totally recommend it – go to Usain Bolt’s Bar Tracks And Records!!
