Paris grows on me, I admit that. While I’m not going to preach about the top backpacking sights in the most touristic city on planet earth, I am happy to share my adventures through the city ‘de temps en temp.’ Similarly to London, Paris changes on every corner, and every Metro station. Each quarter having its own appeal. In my times backpacking through Paris down the years, I have stayed in 5 different parts of the city, including a brace of nights in Montmartre.
My latest and last part of my France trip led me to the Latin Quarter. I stayed at the Young and Happy hostel here. It is also part of the Hip Hop Hostels group. I had a prolonged stay in Paris due to the fact that Northern Ireland stayed longer in the Euro 2016 football tournament and at late notice, the staff at Young and Happy Hostel found me a bed in a 6 bed dorm. These are the things I liked about my stay here in a really different part of Paris, near Place Monge Metro Station.
1.Away From the Buzz
Paris can get over touristic and ridiculously monotonous at times. Four visits to the city now, and I’m not a huge fan of the hype that Paris gets. Eiffel Tower gets more annoying with every visit…
A real positive thing about the Young and Happy Hostel is that it is away from the buzz of it all. You don’t have whackpackers taking selfies outside the door here because the Louvre, Montmartre and Tour Eiffel are not here!
2.Alternative Party Street
Even though it’s away from the night life centres of Paris, the street that Young and Happy Hostel is on is an alternative party street of its own. It can be pricey but a range of top class mini pubs, cafes and restaurants give this area a lot of buzz by night.
3.Cool Staff
The staff at Young and Happy tend to be young, and happy! By no mean coincidence!
4.Free Breakfast
Don’t party too hard or you will miss breakfast! It’s from 8 – 10 am and served in the basement.

Great insight into the hostel – and I love that neighbourhood too! Although I’ve never partied there so I’ll check that out next time! 🙂
Hi Katie thanks for the comments. Glad you like it and cool site you have on the go. Safe travels. Jonny
