New Year’s Eve has seen me bed hop, city hop and country hop a lot in recent years. 2018 ended in a similar fashion, as I began 2019 in Beirut, capital city of Lebanon. I came across a cosy little hostel online, with its own flashy website and a cool location in the Lebanese capital – Mady’s Hostel in Beirut, the capital city.
I was arriving on the final day of 2018, and organised to be met at the airport and taken straight to the hostel to start my party to see in the New year. It was all very easy to organise, and the staff here – Mady herself and Sheila were very helpful and welcoming. If you are backpacking in Lebanon, which you should do as it’s a wonderful country to visit, here are 5 reasons why you should choose to sleep in Mady’s Hostel.
1.Rooftop Views
Outside my room was a balcony on the 6th floor with views over the vibrant streets. It is located in the Gemmayze district, on Gemmayze Street itself. By day you can watch Beirut in action, by night enjoy the bright lights, the party atmosphere and the happy vibe. I also watched the fireworks here to celebrate the new year arriving – 2019.
2.A Welcome Drink
I was welcomed by Sheila to Mady’s Hostel and after checking into my cosy room, I was offered a welcome drink. It was a locally made Lebanese liquor. It was my final drink of 2018 as the new year was coming. Cheers, Slainte! I had the welcome shot together with Sheila, a nice touch to make you feel at home.
3.Cosy, Family Run Venue
Mady’s is run by a local family and everything is very clean, well maintained and cosy. It feels very homely. I’ll show you some photos of my lovely room, the lounge, dining area and bathroom. There are only a small number of rooms so be sure to book it in advance!
4.Excellent Location on Gemmayze Street
Gemmeyze Street is an excellent place to be based in Beirut. The street itself has countless bars, cafes and restaurants. To the left when you leave the hostel you are only a 15 minute walk from the main square, clock, central Mosque and church. The location is so handy. To the right when you leave the hostel, you are a 10 minute walk from many top notch bars and clubs. I really couldn’t believe the eclectic range of bars and clubs. You can check out my top 7 bars in Beirut on my Thirsty Thursdays article.
5.Fast Wi-Fi
As a blogger I usually crave fast Wi-Fi and Mady’s has it. You can blog from the balcony and as it’s a small hostel, the Wi-Fi is consistent throughout! Furthermore there is free tea and coffee and on my trip, I had a tasty Lebanese breakfast too.
Overall, this is a great place to stay in Beirut and I hope to write more about Lebanon very soon.
