I based myself in Tallinn and Parnu in Estonia before heading north on the ferry to Finland. I got my fix of backpacking and hosteling from the wonderful Euphoria Hostel and then I decided on my own room for a night so I could get some closed eye and some work done. I looked no further than the Hotel Shnelli. The best hotel in Tallinn for those wanting some luxury but still on a budget.
Hotel Shnelli is situated right beside Tallinn train station so would be a perfect option for anyone heading to Moscow next (there are currently no direct trains to the other country neighbour – Latvia). It is also on the other side of the Old Town, which makes it a more peaceful spot and less touristy at night. The manager Hanna is a local lady with a love of travel and I was able to go and have a drink with her even though my stay was rather short.
The hotel will also be perfect for couples on a getaway. All rooms are private and have wifi and an ensuite. Here are 5 reasons to stay here at Hotel Shnelli.
1. Clean, comfortable rooms
I stayed in room 503 which is on the green side of the building and I had wonderful views back towards the old city, night and day. Plus the room was cosy and warm and clean with a pristine bathroom.
2. Fast, in room Wi-Fi
I had a desk in my room and the wi-fi was faultless. In fact, Wi-fi in the three Baltic states these days is one of the fastest in the world, so no problems updating your Facebook status or typing up a blog post!
3. Good for onward transfer
Being right by the train station, the Hotel Shnelli is perfect for onward transfer. There are also buses and trams to various parts of Tallinn from outside the door. Round the corner, the number 2 tram takes you directly to the bus station.
4. An all you can eat Buffet Breakfast
The breakfast here is a fantastic way to kick start your day! The ground floor cafe and bar is open to the public too, but make sure you get breakfast included in your room price and you can enjoy an all you can eat option!
On selection was cereals, yoghurt, fruit, bread/toast with jam and butter, quiche, cheese and salami, egg, potatoes, sausages, fruit juice, milk, tea, coffee and a whole lot more.
5. Escape the Old Town Tourists
If you are on a holiday or an adventure and are sick of being around the typical tourists – this place is on the far side of the Old Town, which means you won’t have loads of people walking past at night, yet are close enough to enjoy the charm of the Old Town with a quick walk. However – I really recommend the nearby district of Telliskivi and Kalamaja which is less touristy and has a great local arty buzz at night.
