Travelling In Jamaica: Cool Places To Sleep
“She’ll be waiting; in Kingston Town” – UB40.
I finally made it to Jamaica in December 2022 and actually arrived on the 26th December that year, Boxing Day, or Saint Stephen’s Day. I flew in from Providenciales in the Turks And Caicos Islands. I was certainly here to backpack the main sights of Kingston, do a pub crawl, hang out in the neighbourhood where Raheem Sterling was born, sip a beer in Bob Marley’s house and have dinner in Usain Bolt’s bar! Incredible I managed all that, as well as touring a recording studio used by Shaggy, sleeping in a dorm room in the famous Dancehall Hostel and enjoy the jerk chicken in Kingston Town.
Arrival into Jamaica
Aside from cruise ships, private yachts or richboy helichoppters, arrival into Jamaica will probably be by flight. I felw in from Turks And Caicos Islands and had a window seat view on arrival into Kingston Town. You can also land in Montego Bay Airport and there are a few other options.
Sleeping In Jamaica
Well there are so many options from hotels, couchsurfing, bed and breakfasts to hostels. However, a superb option for the wandering couple would definitely be to check out some private villas in Jamaica. This will allow you total freedom mixed with luxury and fulfillment on your trip to the land of Bob Marley.
Sip cocktails by the pool at your leisure, indulge in local food or take advantage of the self catering at your private villa.
Sightseeing In Jamaica
Jamaica is famous for just so many things – The Reggae Boys, Bob Marley, Usain Bolt, Cricket, Reggae, Ska, Dancehall and all that music! When backpacking it, I merely touched the surface but you can definitely find a lot of cool things to do and here are just some examples.
Bob Marley’s House
Tour the house of Bob Marley himself in Kingston, Jamaica. It’s easy to get to, open every day and you can get a guided tour of Bob Marley’s old house, recording studio and garden. There is also a bar and restaurant where you can eat here, plus a museum, a shop and sometimes live music!
Kingston Town
The lively capital is worth checking out – Kingston Town has an incredible vibe. Tour the museums, markets, waterfront or simply enjoy the vibe on the lively streets – music is everywhere.
Usain Bolt’s Bar: Tracks And Records
The world’s fastest ever man, Usain Bolt, hails from Jamaica and here you can actually have a beer and dinner in his own brand of Sports Bar. I visited and loved it, it’s also quirkily called “Tracks And Records”.
Mural Tour
Jamaica is a country jammed with impressive artists – either head to an art gallery, do some drawing yourself or simply – check out the huge number of murals around the country!
Record Studios Tour
I toured the famous Dancehall Studios where the likes of Shaggy and Busta Rhymes once recorded there albums. The tour was organised by Syl Gordon, himself the boss and owner of the Dancehall Hostel.
Caribbean Sea – Beaches and Beers
Head to the many beaches here, go for a swim in the Caribbean and of course have a beer relaxing by the awesome Caribbean Sea. This is a country of chill out relaxation!
