Winter can be a long and dreary time in these parts. The rain starts to get to you, and sometimes you seriously start to believe that it’s never going to end. You start to forget what it feels like to have the warm sunny rays on your face or what it’s like to venture outside without 3 layers of clothing. Well, these are the things that make winter a perfect time to set sail (figuratively) for sunnier shores.
There are hundreds of destinations all over the world that have either got a warm climate year round, think Thailand and Greece, but there are also places that have the delightful summers just over the time when we are getting to the coldest part of our winter, somewhere like Cape Town, for example.
We have picked three different and entirely balmy destinations for you to check out this winter: The Canaries, Cape Verde and Egypt.
Before booking a hotel at these destinations however, do remember that accommodation isn’t judged by worldwide standards and 5 stars are often awarded more often here than in the Western world.
1.The Canary Islands
Tenerife is the largest and most popular of the islands in the Canaries and here you are guaranteed to find some sunshine and warm temperatures throughout the year. January is the coldest month in Tenerife but the temperature sits at an average of 19 degrees Celsius, and in its hottest month of September you can expect temperatures to rise to about 25/26. A Tenerife holiday is a great place to hit the beach and relax while giving your skin a bit of colour.
2.Cape Verde Islands
This small, arrow-shaped archipelago is one of the best destinations for some winter sun. The temperature averages between 18-28 degrees Celsius throughout the year and this small island is not just culturally rich but offers plenty of adventure sports, and relaxation along its shores.
3.Egypt
Egypt is not often thought of as a winter holiday destination, but it really should be. The cultural significance of the pyramids, sphinx and hundreds of other colossal monuments and the beautiful beaches combine to make Egypt a great place to head of to and grab some sun. The weather here in summer is sweltering hot but in winter the temperature is just right at about 18 degrees Celsius.
