It was my first time in Poland in 8 years. It did feel hard to believe that it had been so long, probably aided by the fact that I have met so many Polish people around the world in my jobs and travels the last few years. And it was time to tour Poznań finally. I had actually passed through the city of Poznań once before though – in March 2005 when I was on a train from Berlin in Germany to Warsaw in Poland. But now here I was in Poznań for real. I really had no idea what to expect. I booked into the cosy Poco Loco Hostel and took things from there.
This hostel is the perfect place if you are backpacking in Poznan and here are 5 reasons why I loved it.
1.Perfect Location
The Poco Loco Hostel is not in the Old Town like some others, which means you are perfectly located half way between the Old Town and the Train and bus station. Get off your train, walk to the hostel and then dumps your bags off and explore the Old Town. It’s also on Taczaka Street which is in an area boasting good bars, cafes and restaurants. I had a good time trying Grzane Piwo / Grzaniec (Polish hot beer) in Basilium Bar in the Old Town.
2.Relaxing Lounge
It’s always nice to have a cosy social area to chill out in. The lounge here is relaxing and there is also a cool sofa and lots of tourist information in the reception area too.
3.Free Breakfast
Breakfast is free from 7.30 – 10 am every day including cereals, tea/coffee and bread, salad and meat. Tea and coffee is also free 24/7. Always a bonus.
4. WiFi
Poland is now a totally cool hip WiFi place for bloggers and backpackers – shhh – don’t tell everyone just yet! Not only do some of the coolest travel bloggers come from Poland (like my friends Cez and Agness) but there are some great cafes and bars for Digital Nomads now too. But sure, just chill in the Poco Loco and make use of the excellent fast WiFi.
5.Cleanliness Awards
The hostel is clean and comfortable, winning awards for it down the years, so you feel spotless hanging out here and ahead of your next journey. A quick shower and I headed on a night train to Krakow next!
So get yourself to Poznan, it is now easily in my top 10 favourite cities in Poland (along with Starogard, Warsaw and Gdynia of course). Here are the details for your stay in the Poco Loco. It’s a little crazy. So it is.

Hi Abbi, yes this is a great hostel and Poznan is far and away my favourite city in Poland. A true gem which will remain untouristy for not much longer when word gets out. Safe travels. Jonny
Hi Victor thanks for the comment. Hope you get to Poznan, as I’ve said it’s a beautiful city and needs to be seen now. Safe travels. Jonny
Hi Karolina and Patryk, thanks. Yeah I like Poland but for some reason, I went 8 years without visiting it. Loved Poznan this time round. Safe travels. Jonny
