After my Saudi Arabia adventure, I headed to Oman for a few days to “chill out”. But in travel, at least in my life, chilling out doesn’t ever really happen. I have to explore a place when I’m there and see as much as I can. In Oman, I stayed at the cosy Hotel Naseem in Mutrah. I walked along the Corniche and Promenade to Old Muscat to check out the charms of traditional Omani life.
Old Muscat has no skyscrapers and no hotels. The real capital is tiny and reminded me of Andorra La Vella, Wrythe and Vaduz.
After exploring the sights and dining at the splendid Zafran Cafe inside the Bayt Al Zubair, I saw a small little juice shop on the corner just past the National Museum. I was thirsty so I wandered in – it was also a Thursday so this is a perfect Thirsty Thursday. I have found a gem of a place here – please try their juices and ice creams if you visit!!
I expected just to buy a quick orange juice and walk out. But what I found was incredible. Inside this small 4 metre by 4metre shop was a range of very special fresh juice cocktails. I feasted my eyes on the menu in disbelief at the range of flavours. Check the menu out…
So i decided to order the Burj Al Arab small size for 800 Baisa (around $2.1 US dollars). The photo looked delicious and of course when we get the product, it rarely looks the same. You can see the drink I chose on the menu here:
I waited and this arrived…!
It looks delicious. It was delicious!! I devoured my Burj Al Arab within 5 minutes. It was made from real fruits and vegetables in the venue. The bottom part was mango with a raspberry sauce in the middle. The top part was avocado. I was shocked!
After this, I decided to have an ice cream here too. I chose the Burj Al Emarat, and while it didn’t look quite as good as the photo, it was equally thirst quenching and was gulped pretty quickly by this backpacker.
It’s a great shop and I spoke to both the staff there, one of them told me they have other venues around Oman, though this was the only one I saw. Please try their smoothies!
