February 2020 was the last time that I visited a new settlement on planet earth. That settlement was Simon’s Town in South Africa. Since then, I have backpacked only repeats, with five repeat countries. They are South Africa, Namibia, Angola, The Netherlands and Poland. Of those, these are the settlements on repeat that I visited.
South Africa – 3 days in Cape Town.
Namibia – a stopover in Windhoek.
Angola – a stopover in Luanda.
The Netherlands – a stopover in Amsterdam.
Poland – Warszawa, Łomianki, Sopot, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Poznań, Piła, Bydgoszcz, Zakrzewo, Łódź.
For the first few months of the lockdown, I stayed at home a lot. I finished my books, I blogged and I started teaching online for the first time in my life. I read a few books and then it was time to finally have a house party and play some games.
I discovered the compact card game, A Little More Conversation. This title takes its inspiration from an Elvis Presley song. In reverse.
“A little less conversation, a little more action, please. All this aggravation ain’t satisfactioning me” – Elvis Presley.
It’s all about breaking the ice, opening yourself and talking a lot. Basically, this little card game will get even the shy and timid to open up. Here are the details of this card game.
Here are the advantages of this card game.
1.Small and compact
The box and card set of A Little More Conversation fits in your pocket. It’s small and very easy to carry. This means you can easily take it with you to bars, to friends flats for parties and of course into your pocket or backpack for travelling with. I can see it becoming an excellent icebreaker in hostels all over the world. Easy.
2.Opens up the shy
Even the shy and timid can come out of their shells when playing this game. It gets you thinking, it gets you talking and you will learn more about your family, friends and strangers.
“Na na na na na nana na na na na beautiful stranger” – Madonna.
3.Anyone can play
The game is easy to understand, so people of all ages can play. While it will mostly be for adults, it can also be interesting to play at children’s parties. It is easy questions, written on cards.
4.Intriguing Questions
This game has intriguing questions, split into 5 categories.
-1 Warm Up
-2 What If
-3 Back In The Day
-4 Right Here Right Now
-5 Tomorrow and Beyond
I won’t spoil it as to what all the questions are of course, but here is a teaser.
5.Can Play It Anywhere
As I wrote, this game is small and portable. You can play it anywhere. Beach, pub, café, balcony, bus, car, flight etc. You can even play it on Zoom in a group, if leaving the flat isn’t possible. The quarantine boys could organise an online interactive “A Little More Conversation”. There are no limits.
“There’s a new planet in the solar system; there is nothing up my sleeve” – R. E. M.
