“The night seems to fade, But the moonlight lingers on” – UB40.
In April – May 2023 I managed to visit 5 new African countries, 4 of which have coastline on the Indian Ocean, 4 of which begin with letter M and 3 of which are island countries. Some of that I had titled my MMM tour. The last of these 5 fell on Mauritius and I flew in here from nearby Reunion Island – it was a 45 minute flight. After clearing immigration and checking into my hotel, the Explora Prestige, I was out exploring the Blue Bay area and loved it. I also did a mini pub crawl of Blue Bay, and indeed the Phoenix beer here is included in that.
After a gorgeous stroll along Blue Bay Beach and an Indian Ocean dip, I headed in search of a place to chill with food and drink. There were actually less options than I expected, but I still managed a 5-bar strong pub crawl at Blue Bay. Feast your eyes on the beauty.
Late afternoon, I was ready for a decent cheap meal and I didn’t care if it was local or not. So when I spied the Blue Bay Snack Shack I knew this was cheap and cheerful and in I went. It’s on the right hand side of the main car park at Blue Bay if the beach and Indian Ocean is behind you. The Caribbean beats of “Kingston Town” pumped out here at Blue Bay Snack Shack by the Indian Ocean 🇮🇳🏝 in paradisic Mauritius.
The menu was simple and straight to the point. I immediately went for a Chinese style chicken egg fried rice, which I think is called Riz Frite Poulet on the menu above and cost 185 Rupees, around £3.23 in Northern Irish pounds (or $4 US Dollars). Beerwise, I chose a gold Phoenix beer in a 500 millilitre can, it was 150 Rupees so under £3. In Mauritius I also drank Phoenix on draught and in bottles as well as their finest Craft IPA, Thirsty Fox.
I love a bit of spice and so the waitress brought me two spices. One of them I milked by using loads of it – delicious! I’m spicy food loyal in the tropics.
This was a great wee spot for food at Blue Bay Beach in Mauritius. After eating my chicken egg fried rice and spice with a Phoenix beer, I continued on a pub crawl and enjoyed the lovely sunset here at Blue Bay.
