This is a short Friday’s Featured Food today and it’s topical as it also comes from Iraq, where you might have heard I’ve been backpacking in since New Year’s Eve. When you wander the markets, bazaars and streets of Iraqi Kurdistan, you will notice how many different types of ready to eat food there are.
It was dessert time though and so I opted for what I can only describe as a creamy cake dessert.
What is creamy cake dessert in Iraq?
It’s basically a transparent plastic cup with coloured cream, chocolate, cake and syrup in it. They come in various sizes, shapes and varieties.
Where can you get creamy cake dessert in Iraq?
I saw it in every town I was in – mostly around the markets areas. Duhok, Erbil and Sulaymaniyeh have lots of them.
How much does creamy cake dessert in Iraq cost?
I paid 1,000 Iraqi Dinars for one, which is about 90 cents US. Reasonable enough. I’m pretty sure you could shop around or bargain it down or find somewhere selling for 500 ID though.
What is creamy cake dessert in Iraq like?
Of course it’s good! I have a sweet tooth and I loved it. If I wasn’t such a tight cheapskate backpacker, I’d have eaten at least one of these a day.
Incidentally Duhok offers lots of things to do and also has some Kurdish feasts as well!
