Friday’s Featured Food: Lamb Rosh, Naan, Lime Juice And Tea At Sarhad Restaurant, Lahore, Pakistan 🇵🇰

Friday’s Featured Food returns this week and is fresh from my latest trip to Asia where I visited Pakistan. While based in Lahore, I pakpacked the sights of Lahore, headed to the India border to watch the famous Wagah Border Ceremony and headed to The Tomb of Jahangir in Shadarah Bagh. Here, on my second evening in the city, I had Lamb Rosh, Naan Bread, Lime Juice And Tea At Sarhad Restaurant, Lahore, Pakistan 🇵🇰

While pakpacking in Lahore, Pakistan I was based in Gulberg-II District. For dinner, of course my excellent hotel, Rose Palace Hotel does great food as do a few other hotels in the area. However, I just craved a restaurant that wasn’t part of a hotel.

Where Is Sarhad Restaurant?

Walking along the streets at night, I found Sarhad Restaurant. In fact, this was one of the closest restaurants to my hotel! Perhaps after days of hardcore backpacking, I just wanted an easy walk at night, however – this turned out to be excellent in both location, food, hospitality and price.

The Menu At Sarhad Restaurant

The good news is that the menu is simple, meaning it is easy to choose, as opposed to the “it’s hard to choose” girl from my yesteryear. It is also written in English!! I think this is because Sarhad Restaurant is located in the Gulberg II district close to so many hotels. They know foreigners are coming, so they try to attract them. I found this restaurant on my own just walking – I did not use Google, or ask someone. It stuck out at me and was a great choice.

On the bread, roti and salad menu, I went for the Afghani Naan, small size. This was 140 Pakistani Rupees, which is 38 pence in Northern Irish pounds, or 47 cents in US Dollars.

Lamb is a speciality here but I skipped the large lamb meals, as I wasn’t that hungry on this evening.

Below, you will also see their chicken dishes which I also skipped. Instead I went for the Sarhad Speciality Lamb Rosh. This is a lamb shank in a greasy soup. It was 1,800 Rupees, £4.87 or $6 US Dollars.

For the drinks, I chose a fresh lime juice for 150 Rupees, which is 40 pence or 50 cents. I also chose the small tea – a pot came and it was 300 Rupees, which is 80 pence or $1 US Dollar.

Overall, my meal and drinks cost 2,490 Rupees, which is £6.73 or $8.35 US Dollars. This is obviously dearer than on the poky street corners of Lahore, but this was a cool restaurant and worth the extra money. The tea came with sugar and lime, and the Naan bread was huge. Thre was also a potato with the Lamb Rosh. This was a great meal, here is what it looked like.

The Atmosphere And Seating At Sarhad Restaurant

I loved this place for the relaxation of it all. It had “beds”/”settees”, meaning you could relax. It was all lads here so I compared it to the equivalent of a pub back home, since the cricket was on the television (as opposed to football), the lads were eating then drinking tea (as opposed to beer) and we were chatting and relaxing. Two lads joined me for a while and we chatted away. Also – the two toilets in our section were both male – there were no girls in here.

I felt at some point that bars in Poland and Northern Ireland should also have these relaxing settees, as I remembered that Red Light Pub in Gdansk actually does have it! I chatted to my waiter Mohammed and soon it was time to go as I was up early the next day for a trip to Shahdara Bagh, which is a historic precinct located across the Ravi River from the Walled City of Lahore in Punjab, Pakistan.
