How to Spend Your Birthday as a Traveller!

It’s my birthday today. I’m travelling. That’s amazing! In fact this is only the second time in my life I have ever been travelling on my birthday. That might seem hard to believe as I travel a lot but it’s true. The last time I properly travelled on my birthday was in 2005. I was in Warsaw in Poland. In the intervening years I have only been in my hometown (Bangor, Northern Ireland) once and the rest of the time was living elsewhere (twice I was in Australia, once in Asia and the rest of the time I was in England).

I’m now in Malaysia, Malaysian Borneo and it’s great to be here travelling on my birthday. The plan is to check out the jungle, relax and enjoy a really decent meal and maybe a drink or two. With my girlfriend, Travelling Hong Kong Girl! That’s what I really want to do – just relax!

I’ve worked on my last 3 birthdays, so it’s great to not have to wear someone else’s clothes and visit a building just to get paid. I’m free to the world today and I’m loving it. For no other reason than the fact that this is my day and I will spend it how I want I am sharing my birthday plan with you. On my 20th birthday I got drunk in the local pub in Bangor, Northern Ireland. On my 25th birthday I watched a football match, partied and went sightseeing round Warsaw, Poland. On my 30th birthday I worked hard on a broccoli field in northern Tasmania but was able to go out to the local Irish pub for food and drinks that night.
