Backpacking In Belgium: How To Get From Brussels To Charleroi Airport
I have visited Belgium five times now, having first backpacked it in 2007. However it wasn’t until 2023 that I first had a flight out of Charleroi Airport. On other adventures, I was in Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and some small border villages with my German mate Rene.
There are quite a few ways to backpack from Brussels to Charleroi if you don’t have your own car/transport. However I have done this journey twice and both times I used Flibco!
Charleroi Airport is situated 34 miles (55 kilometers) south of Brussels, in Charleroi. It’s also known as Brussels South Charleroi Airport and is where most low-cost airlines operate their services from.
Charleroi Airport has the advantages and disadvantages of all small airports. It’s small with very few shops, so there is little to do. However, it’s difficult to get lost, doesn’t take much time to get to the gate and airport security is quick.
This airport is flourishing thanks to popular airline companies like Ryanair. Every year the airport welcomes 8 million visitors.
