Backpacking in Cape Verde Islands🇨🇻: My Stay at the Praia Maria Boutique Hotel, Praia, Santiago Island

April 2022 saw me visit Lisboa in Portugal for the fourth time, and after that it was a brace of Portuguese speaking Islands. I first toured The Azores 🌊⛱️🇵🇹 before a direct flight from Ponta Delgada to Praia on Santiago Island in The Cape Verde Islands 🟢⛱️🌊🇨🇻

I had a few options of places to stay here, both hotels in the capital city, and elsewhere. In the end, it was an easy choice to opt for the Praia Maria Boutique Hotel which is right in the central area of Praia. Praia is the capital city of The Cape Verde Islands, and is also the capital city of Santiago Island.

Even better that I slept here as the Praia Maria Boutique Hotel is located in Plateau, the focal point of the capital. Here are five reasons for choosing this excellent hotel.

1.Very welcoming staff and owner

David is the boss and he welcomed me with aplomb. Dave also organised my lift from the airport with Antonio, the driver.

As well as this, Celisa was very friendly and I met staff member Leya, a beautiful lady from Guinea-Bissau. She remains the first and only person I have ever met from Guinea-Bissau. Years ago, I worked in Bournemouth with Alpha. Alpha however was from Guinea.

2.Plateau Location

The location was superb because the Praia Maria Boutique Hotel is on Rua Pedonal street which is straight and pedestrian and runs through the Plateau district of Praia. This is so central. That street is also fantastic for a bar crawl and to try the local cuisine.

3.Courtyard Art Appeal

This is a cool hotel design wise. The brace of floors are in traditional courtyard style and above that, breakfast is served on a cute balcony.

4.Squeaky Clean Rooms

There were no complete single bed rooms so I was in a double. This was a cosy bed and very clean bathroom too.

5.WiFiLoyal

Before visiting The Azores and Cape Verde Islands, I expected the Atlantic Ocean Islands to be the opposite of WiFi loyal!! However, I had fast and excellent WiFi in both countries! This was a short trip at Easter 2022 but I was able to finish a lot of my upcoming book here.
