My backpacking in Northern Ireland adventures continued as I toured the North Coast of my home country on what is my longest stint in Europe for over 5 years. After staying in the Whitepark Bay Hostel near Ballintoy, I headed on a bus back to Bushmills to spend a night here. I chose the only hostel in town – the Bushmills Hostel and I checked in, dumped off my stuff and headed to explore Bushmills. This hostel is really spacious and in a great location. Before I write about things to see and do in the town, here are 5 reasons why you should stay in the Bushmills Hostel.
1. Location
Bushmills is a small town but the location of the Bushmills Hostel couldn’t be any more perfect. It’s on the main street through the town right by the War Memorial and clock. This is also the location of the bus stop to the Giants Causeway and Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge and also towards Coleraine. It’s easy to get to the hostel on public buses.
2. Clean and Tidy
What I love about hostels and hotels in Northern Ireland is that they are clean and tidy. The staff pride themselves on it and they hate dirt, rubbish and anything that takes the shine off a place. Check my photos and you’l see – the Bushmills Hostel is in great condition.
3. Places to Relax
Away from the tours of the Bushmills Whiskey Distillery (a must, incidentally), there are a few places to relax here in the hostel:
– Outdoor courtyard
– Spacious lounge
– Massive dining room
There is also a back garden. It’s a lot more spacious than what it looks like from the entrance!
4. Fast Wi-Fi
Northern Ireland is well connected you know. Wi-Fi here in the hostel is fast and works well in all the rooms near the reception area – so take the hint and get a room near the front. If not, the cosy lounge offers a great chance to get online and relax.
5. Local Information
Aside from the numerous books in the lounge, there are leaflets full of tourist information in the reception and manager Denis is a world of knowledge on the nearby area and all of Northern Ireland. You’ll want to make sure you tour Bushmills, get to the Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Whitepark Bay Beach, Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge and so much more!! The Bushmills Whiskey Distillery is the oldest in the world – so do not miss it!
Not only that, but the Tourist Information office is only across the street too!
I’ve been to Bushmills a load of times and I just love it so I plan to write a bit about the town very soon, now you know where to stay when you get there. Here’s the full address:
