Staying at Mimi Apartments by Lake Ohrid, Northern Macedonia🇲🇰

After a few days in Skopje, I headed to the southern part of Northern Macedonia to see what is widely regarded as the best tourist spot in the country, Lake Ohrid. I’ll report some other time on my impressions of the lake and town, first up – I found a fantastic place to stay – Mimi Apartments.

It’s run by a cool local Macedonian family and is a cosy, welcoming place down near the Lake. When you hit up Lake Ohrid, make this the spot you stay at – easy fit for a backpacker’s budget and here are 5 things I loved about it.

1. Private Relaxing Rooms

I took a break from dorms yet again in Lake Ohrid and had my own private relaxing room.

2. Great Location

Mimi Apartments are located pretty close to the Lake and the Old Town of Ohrid – a perfect base. It’s a 1.5 kilometre walk from the bus station – but the area near the bus station is not the best one to stay in – by the Lake is much better.

3. Welcoming Owners

The local family who run Mimi are welcoming and they do their best to speak English and communicate to your needs. Mirko is the main man who runs the show.

4. Hot Showers

I had my own ensuite and the showers were hot – just turn on the boiler to heat them up. It was a few long days of bus journeys and that hot shower to kill those germs always makes you feel good.

5. Tranquility

You are staying by a quiet Lake here and tranquility was important for me. Mimi Apartments is on a quiet street and will allow you to relax.

So when you decide to head to Lake Ohrid, look no further than the best budget option in town – Mimi Apartments. Also – Mimi has rooms of different types to suit all types of travellers – from budget to higher end from singles to couples.
