I have been staying in Ibis Hotels on my travels for a few years now. I love how the brand is consistent and non-intrusive in the many Ibis Hotels (over 2000) around the world. The brand sits well with me due to the fact that I know what to expect each time. I have stayed in the Ibis Hotels in places like Kaliningrad, Kuwait City and Bahrain. Every time, I found them to be very clean, cosy and exactly what I needed and hoped for at the time. You can be sure of the same service and design in every Ibis you stay in. Consistent brands work well and you become used to them.
Having explored parts of Poland for 5 months, I found out that a brand new Ibis Hotel had opened in September 2016 in the Stare Miasto (Old Town) of Gdańsk- Ibis Gdańsk Stare Miasto. I booked myself in here for two nights. Despite spending a lot of time in Gdańsk this year, this was the first and only hotel I stayed in, in the city – the rest of the time I rented flats, stayed with friends or backpacked it in hostels.
This Ibis was a superb place to relax for me. I was in Room 222 and enjoyed my comfortable room so much, I didn’t really want to leave and move on again. I was checked in at reception by Magda, who was very welcoming and friendly.
Here are 5 of the things I liked about my stay here.
1.Convenient Location – Near Train Station and Old Town
From the main train station Gdańsk Główny, just a 7 or 8 minute walk will bring you to the Ibis Gdańsk Stare Miasto.
The Old Town location also makes it perfect for your sight seeing, you can do it all on foot. It is also about 5 minutes walk from the Post Office where World War 2 began. Gdańsk is a stunning city with great history, architecture and a modern, progressive vibe. For further reading, check out my tour to Westerplatte, my food tour in Gdynia and the day out at the Murals of Zaspa.
2.Fast Wi-Fi
The fast Wi-Fi here at Ibis Hotel Gdansk is available everywhere in the building. I was online from the comfort of my room, with a desk by the window. I was also able to use the fast Wi-Fi downstairs.
For those without a computer or Wi-Fi device, there is a computer in the lobby too.
3.Brand New, Great Time to Go
The Ibis Hotel Gdansk Stare Miasto is brand spanking new and this is probably what I loved about it the most. My review is also one of the first genuine travel writers to cover a stay here. My room and bathroom were so clean and cosy.
4.Great Food and Drink
The downstairs bar and restaurant is a great place to relax. I had breakfast here two mornings in a row and also took advantage of the food one night.
Breakfast is served from 6.30 am to 10 am as an all you can eat buffet option. There is also great tea, coffee and orange juice. I also tried the snacks from the bar, some of them are available 24 hours.
5.The fifteen minute promise
When you check in and look at the hotel’s promises to its clients, there is a “15 minute promise”. Basically if you need something or have a question, the hotel staff are obliged to answer you ASAP and always within 15 minutes. On the Sunday evening, I fancied a pot of tea and a baguette to be ordered. I phoned up the reception and got my order in.
Other Great things about this hotel:
- 120 rooms
- 100% non-smoking hotel
- 2 rooms for people with reduced mobility
- Kids corner
- Extra bed in room for child
