Costa Rica was the last country on my Central American adventure and I was in dire need of a private room and a cosy one. Night buses, dorms, bed bugs and early mornings had taken their toll. I was lucky then that I found Kaps Place in San Jose, Costa Rica!
This is a wonderfully colourful family run bed and breakfast or guesthouse – it’s not a hostel (no dorms) and it’s not a hotel so it’s in between and a perfect fit for a blogger. It’s your “home away from home”, it’s cosy, warm, safe, welcoming and friendly and fits perfect for those wanting to relax a bit and still stick to a budget.
Here are the top 6 things I loved about Kaps Place.
1. Best Breakfast in Weeks!
Yes, I even stayed in a few four stars in Central America, but none of their breakfasts could ever top the breakfast at Kaps Place.
Quite simply – HUGE variety of food and drinks. Mind blowing in fact and I won’t even be able to list all the food here, but this is most of what was available:
– 20+ types of tea, unlimited coffee, a juicer to squeeze your own fresh orange juice, a toaster, 3 types of bread, jam, honey, 3 types of cereal, fresh fruit (watermelon, pineapple, strawberry), eggs, gallo pinto etc.
Basically a feast!! The Gallo Pinto here is special. Here are the best of my food photos:
2. Friendly Staff
I was welcomed with a smile and given a map and shown to my room and a tour of the building. Amazing hospitality. The owner is Karolina and she makes a special effort to ensure all her guests feel at home here. Hence why they are ranked highly on TripAdvisor.
3. Spacious Guesthouse!
Every corner and turn reveals another room and Kaps Place houses a few kitchens and lounge. It’s really spacious and cosy and there are plenty of places to relax in. Check out my photos of Kaps:
4. Easy Walking Tour Route
Yes, the guesthouse is great but you’re also here to explore San Jose, remember? The map you get at reception in Kaps has walking tours on it that you can follow and do yourself! I explored the entire city on foot and will write about it soon!
5. Fast WiFi
Last but not least, FAST Wifi. I mention this in most of my hostel and hotel reviews as for me, these days, working on the move I rely on internet. The wifi works in the rooms!
6. Cosy Rooms
I just totally felt at home in Kaps Place. They have cosy rooms. Colourful and decorated with a comfortable ged. Wifi works in the rooms, I also had a safe and an ensuite.
