While celebrating my 99th country in Norway, I decided to spend a bit more time in Oslo than most travellers do, I wanted a few days in the city but also a night on the outskirts to get a feel for a different vibe in the Norwegian capital. Plus, I noticed a Sports Hotel which made perfect sense for me as I could see whether Norwegians really do spend all their winter lives ski-ing and doing winter sports and I could get myself on the road to decent health. Backpacking non stop isn’t good for maintaining a consistent diet or healthy body.
The idea of staying at the Olympiatoppen Sports Hotell was highly appealing and I sorted myself out with my own room which included access to the sauna and fitness centre plus breakfast. Here are five reasons why I loved my stay here at the Olympiatoppen Sports Hotell and why this is the cool healthy hotel option for any travellers to Oslo.
1. Sauna and Gym
A full gym is available and there is also a sauna which I made use of. It is open to the public during the day time and can get busy but after 4pm Hotel Guests get free unlimited entry which is excellent. I felt so fresh that night when I rested my head for a sleep.
2. Healthy Breakfast
There is a tremendous healthy breakfast option here at the Olympiatoppen Sport Hotell. From fresh juices to fruit and a fantastic range of cereals and crackers. Plus the tea, coffee and hot drinks are available for guests 24 hours a day. You can also buy drinks and snacks from reception. I’ll let the photos do the talking for breakfast. Healthy to the core.
3. Clean, Pristine Rooms
On entering my room it felt fresh and clean. I had a window overlooking the nearby fields and sports centres.
4. Escape the Big City Vibe
Yes, I loved Oslo and it’s a cool city – more to come on it. But sometimes you just want the relaxation of the outskirts and suburbs. You get it here. Nearby is a lake and mountains for ski-ing and you’re at the last stop on the metro line, so well away from the hustle and bustle of capital Oslo.
To get here just get on the Number 6 Metro line until the furthest north station which is Sognsvann.
5. In Room WiFi
If all those healthy options weren’t enough – then there’s the idea of chilling and doing nothing but surfing in your room. In room WiFi is provided here. I also loved the special welcome on the TV which also has movie and other facilities so you can relax in the comfort of your room.
So if you want to stay in Oslo but escape the city centre and enjoy a healthier and cooler experience, go for the Olympiatoppen Sports Hotell:
