“Before my eyes, beyond the stars, beneath the sun” – Tim Wheeler.
Get ready for a treat. Be aware of the potential surprises in store. Remember, nothing impresses me that much anymore. I’m bored of nondescript German cities, dingy Chinese pubs and Australian animals. As the Beatles once told us, “my baby’s on the one after 909” – I’m metaphors on the brain and on one particular evening, I landed in Grenada…
It takes a lot for a venue, a place, a settlement, a hotel, a bar to impress me now. Grenada, take a bow.
Re-checking my real country count saw Grenada come in at number 192. I had visited 191 countries before this one – 191 was Barbados. I was blown away by the country’s calm, humble beauty. Arrogance doesn’t exist here and it was clear for all to see. As a country, Grenada later crept into my top 10 from 199 and as a result, I even had a brace of decent nights sleep in the Sea Breezez Hotel. Here in Grand Anse. Grand Anse on Sea.
“It’s all too beautiful” – The Small Faces.
And so, when the sun sinks over your laptop as you ponder on where to visit next, I have two simple tips for you…
Firstly, visit Grenada.
Secondly, when you do that, book into the Sea Breeze Hotel.
You can absolutely trust me 100% on this. As an ex hotel worker, barman and social geek, I am still overwhelmed by staff who are perpetually better than I ever was. (Checking back on my glory days in Bournemouth’s Heathy H!). I look so young here – well, it was 18 years ago, really!
Here’s why I loved my stay here at the Sea Breeze Hotel and here’s why.
1.Sea Breeze means Sea View
I was in room 6. Up the stairs and with a balcony. I was here for two nights so I was able to see a brace of sunrises and a sunset. Just check the views…from my balcony.
2.Friendly Staff
Lotten welcomed me with aplomb, and the entire staff helped with my next PCR COVID test. I’ll write oneday about my problems travelling after COVID 19 all began. On arrival, it was a beer and a chat to the lovely ladies Telisha and Carline on reception – there were a hattrick of smiles!
3.Swimming Pool
Yes here in the Sea Breeze is a brilliant frontal swimming pool. I jumped in twice, day and night. Here are a few photos from my twilight jump and swim. It was very refreshing.
Also, it is rumoured that there is a mermaid living in this pool sometimes…
4.Good WiFi
I was able to work and blog from my room. WiFi was fast even in Room 6!!
5.Spacious Rooms
I was in Room 6 which meant a huge bedroom, a big kitchen, a good sized bathroom and a balcony. Here are some photos…
6.Near Airport
Apart from cruise ship geeks, most tourists will arrive into Grenada by flight and it was nice to stay in the south of the island, near the main airport. I flew out of Grenada with Intercaribbean Airlines (recommended) and directly to Saint Vincent, on a quest for glory, Oasis style in the time of my life.
7.Local Town to Explore – Grand Anse
I loved the local area – Grand Anse and I was given some tips here at Sea Breeze – I was told where to find the nearest ATM, some bars, the beaches (which were a few minutes walk), the spice market (excellent and will be included in my next article) and I was also able to get my PCR COVID test nearby which totally helped out on my journeys!!
8.Very Helpful Manager
I met Lotten, the manager. Lotten not only made me feel at home and so welcome here but she went to lengths to help me during the COVID era. She kindly gave me a lift to Fit For Life to do my COVID PCR test, which allowed me to travel for the next 72 hours to two more countries.
9.Pink and Blue
Yes, it works in business. Colour schemes are important and I loved the pink and blue here, both outside and inside the room!
10.Bar and Food
I had a superb breakfast here (there’s a small surcharge) and I recommend it – very tasty. I had a hot chocolate, garlic bread, chicken, sausages and salad. I enjoyed it on my balcony!
The bar is fully stocked with the local beer and some snacks including the local Tayto, not to be confused with the Northern Irish Tayto crisps.
11.Bus Stop Outside
Right outside is a bus stop, which allows easy and simple access to all over the island. When I was there, every journey is equivalent to 1USD.
Unfortunately, Grenada was a country on my East Caribbean tour and I did that during COVID times (December 2021) and my time in each country was not only short but involved days of planning, days of paying too much money for emergency taxis to take me for PCR tests, Antigen tests. But I was still delighted to see it, and sad to leave…
